Kingdoms (Koninkrijk) needs experienced programmer

Post by gier »

Kingdoms is a card game for math minded gamers who appreciate classics like rummicub and poker. Though the mechanics are simple, there's a lot to take into account. It's all about managing your hand, wich will be a challenging puzzle all through the game.

I'm hoping to find one or two programmers here who like the game and can make a BGA version. I guess programming how cards can be arranged in the folder will be the most different about this game. The games folders allow players to organise their cards and remain a clear view while deciding which cards to keep and which to offer in battle. The rest could be a days work for a programmer who has made card games before. This could be a nice one for your portfolio, I'm a designer who wants the graphics to look the part.

KINGDOMS in a nutshell

Be the first to build a kingdom with these 3 groups: A 1, 2 and 3 form a people worth half a bonus point. 4, 5 and 6 form an army worth 1 bonus point. 7, 8 and 9 form a court worth 2 bonus points. Along the way you can add groups to your kingdom, take them back or change their colours, but your kingdom can contain only one colour combination. The bonus points of your groups will strenghten your attack. Players take 9 cards from the deck and may start adding groups, the game begins.

A player takes a card from the deck, places it face up in the middle and challenges an opponent of choice. The opponent attacks by bidding a card from the hand. The cards value + bonus points = the attack value. The challenger counter attacks and also bids a card, if this attack is equal or higher then the opponent may choose: give up or raise? The opponent can raise by bidding a 2nd card of the same colour as the 1st, the value will be added to the attack value. After a raise the challenger also bids a 2nd card, if it is of a different colour then the 1st card loses value. The player with the highest attack value wins the card from the deck, the challenger gets the advantage at a draw. Finally both players take each others attack cards and the turn passes to the left.

A treasure card can be added to your kingdom to add half a point to your bonusvalue. You can also bid a treasure card in battle, then it is worth 15 points. Between battles you can arrange your cards and adapt your kingdom. Decide for each of your cards how they can serve you best and organise them in your folder. It's up to you to figure out the best tactics.
