not so perfect after 120 games

After 120 games of perfect karma i got into a CoC tournament with 2 days playing time. not making the last move before bed time can cost you 8+ hours, add the new year events and its not so good

So I got a bit low on time.. my opp. had 30+ hours left, plenty to finish the game that was on the last or second-last round, and he skipped my turns instead of finishing the game as "we" had plenty of time

I know he had the right but.. why? is getting whatever points (does it actually matter for anything?) worth not finishing a game you already put a couple of hours into? I have never skipped anyones turn, even in tournaments, if the total time runs out the player with the most time just wins by default

and now my karma is like excellent, i guess it doesnt take into account the words i have for that guy

Tournaments work a little differently than normal games. While the opponent has the opportunity to end the game when one player runs out of time in a normal game, in tournament play this happens automatically. This is to ensure that all tournament games will be able to start at their appointed times.

That's not quite true. Tournament games end automatically after an elapsed time that would allow both players' clocks to reach zero. So in a four day game, for example, if player A has used 1 day for clock, player B could reach -3 days before the game terminates automatically (but player A can kick them out at minus thirty seconds if they want to).

I agree with the OP, I wish that the option to kick opponents out would be removed from tournament games. It's unnecessary. If they're not playing you'll win automatically, and if they are playing then it's bad sportsmanship. It's not like a clock in a real-time chess game, where the slow player is getting more thinking time; in long-term games it's either whose real life got in the way more, or more usually, simply who lives further east and had to go to bed earlier.

On more than one occasion, I've been playing a game where my clock had run down, but we'd kept on playing afterwards. But very near the end of the game, when it was clear I was about to win, then they kicked me out. That leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I mean, it's legal according to the rules of the site, but instantly justifies Red Thumb as far as I'm concerned.

To be clear, I'm happy that games should end after a predetermined limit, and I think it's fair enough that when that happens the victory should go to the one who has been more willing/able to play. But I think people should generally only use this option if the opponent has actually stopped playing, and in tournament games where the result matters and there's another mechanism for the game to end, it shouldn't be available at all.

Yeah Jest, I noticed that after not kicking a few opponents that werent playing so fast, it did end up happening automatically after they reached about -10 hours or so (when I had about 10 I guess? so the 2+2 days were over or something like that

shadow, my point exactly, and wow, what happened to you is even worse of course, at least my opp. kicked me out as soon as i reached negatives, didnt even get to make a play afterwards

like you said, it is within the rules of the tournament, but i cant help feel like its bad sportsmanship.

my wish with this post is to raise awareness that it feels kind of crappy, not finishing a game is really sad, when playing live I always avoid playing something that may have to end early if the place we are playing has a closing time, because after investing 1+ hours into a game, having to stop mid-way is terrible

That would be the goal for some people here, maybe even for many people - but your mistake is assuming it's the goal for everyone. You've seen the evidence that this is not the case - some people aim to get the highest possible ELO, prestige, win/loss ratio or whatever other statistic is important to them. For those people, skipping your turns at the earliest possible opportunity is completely consistent with their goals, even if it doesn't match your goals or mine.
