If there is an appeal section for when a player is reported by another olayer.

Why do you never hear back from anyone on the appeal link

Yes. It is explained in the moderation decision.

We only answer when the decision has been changed, so no answer means that the decision hasn't changed.

The thing is that moderators are doing a very good job here, so 95% of the appeal gets no answer.

Note that at the beginning of BGA we were answering to innapropriate appeal requests, and most of the time we got insults in return. Thus we decided that it was a waste of time.

I get that, but I'm not sure 'no answer' is still the right response. There should be some closure, rather than leaving the user wondering about their appeal's status.

I've never had to request an appeal, so I don't know the ui. Would there be any way to inform the user that the review has been completed without change, in a manner that the user can't immediately respond to (like when there are system messages about downtimes)?

Believe my experience: no answer is most of the time better than any answer in such a case. 90% of the time, the players who appel moderation decisions has an "attitude" which make them think that they are totally right even they obviously didn't respect the rules. Answering them, by any manner, makes them unnecessary angry.

Perhaps there could be something for the 10% though...

Such as an automated message when an appeal is initiated, with an indication that if no further communication is sent by BGA within a reasonable time period (72 hours or so), then they should consider their appeal denied.

Granted, I have not had to deal with the moderation of players on BGA, but when I was dealing with it elsewhere I saw similar trends to what you are describing: many people who disregard the rules will always think they are right, and trying to explain to them is a waste of time. However, there are those few who genuinely do not understand what they did wrong, and when it is explained they change their behavior and become a contributing member of the community. Generally the people that ask why they were moderated, rather than the people claiming they shouldn't have been moderated.

Yes, sometimes it is difficult to determine quickly which type of person they are. I think the rewards of educating the few should compensate for the extra time required to identify them.
