Offensive language and leaving a game

I recently left a game because another player used offensive language directed at me in the discussion chat. Because I refused to continue playing the game I lost reputation points. Also, adding insult to injury, the player who posted the offensive language ended up getting 'winning' points because I left. I don't see anyway to get my reputation points back except by waiting it out. I don't think you should punish a person for not wanting to be subject to such language or reward someone for being offensive.

You accepted a penalty for leaving a game in progress. By leaving the game, you forfeit the game.

What do you suggest? The removal of the automatic penalty for not completing a game? The removal of any ELO/ranking changes for canceled games?

Simply blocking certain common obviously offensive words from the chat rooms would be a start. I do realize that I will slowly regain the reputation points over the course of my next several games and I do actually prefer that to having to look at obscenities directed towards me and people from my country. And, you are correct, I did make a choice not to play with someone who would do that. If I had stayed he would have continued and I should not be forced to put up with that to save my reputation points. So, yes, I think that there show be no penalty if you leave a game where another person is purposely offending you. I came to enjoy a game...not to be offended.

I checked, and you didn't report your opponent to moderators for offensive language. This is a mandatory point before anything else, otherwise we cannot help you in any way.

Based on that, we may decide what to do.

We are already displaying a "warning window" when someone is about to send an offensive word in the chat, but it has some flaws, like words that are offensive in a language but not in another language. An automatic filter would not be reliable anyway, so we prefer to warn before and moderate after.

Which words are "common obviously offensive words"? Keep in mind that BGA is multilingual, a common word in one language may be vulgar in another. How would the block be applied? Should it prevent the message from being sent? How are you going to detect the offending word? Should it ignore spaces or other characters? What if the offending word is a part of another word?

I fully appreciate the language translation concerns. In this case all the other words were in clear English, so I concluded that it was meant as written. Some people are just crude, rude, and/or offensive. I wonder if there is a way to simply turn off the chat.

Also... it would be helpful to me if you could give me a list of commonly acceptable words in various languages that translate to the F-word in English. I'm curious.
