Confirmation Screen in Arena

Post by DeviousRogue »

The waiting queue for ranked takes too long so many people tab out and do something else. They then forget to check regularly, so when a game DOES start, it ends up an AFK win for the other player, which is mostly a waste of time for the player who didn't afk and an unnecessary loss for person who forgot about the queue.

I understand that the purpose of not being given a choice is so that people can't match-fix, but a determined player could do that anyway with a relatively high degree of success. Also, an intermediate option would be to make it so that you can't see the name of your opponent, but you still need to manually confirm.

Hi,

Without a confirmation screen, the player who is AFK is punished for not playing.

With a confirmation screen, the opponents of the AFK player are punished because their game won't start despite of the wait.

We prefer to punish the AFK player.

When your game is ready, you are warned in multiple manner:
_ a sound is playing
_ the browser tab is animated
_ if you enabled the notifications on your browser/mobile app (which I encourage you to do), you are notified wherever you are.

Beside this, 2 important things:
_ we DO perform a basic test (technical) to check if the computer of the AFK player is responding. If not, the game does not start.
_ the current situation is still unsatisfactory, since some players are not enabling notifications or do not stop lobby search when they are leaving the computer. We are looking for solutions and will do some improvements in this area.

Without a confirmation screen both the afk player and the opponents of the afk player are punished. The game won't start in a meaningful way, this way, either. Its just an additional 3 minute wait time until they can kick the afk player/abandon the game. It would be less of a punishment with a confirmation, to be honest, as the overall waiting time would be less
