WHY is there no way to takeback?

Post by LosAngeloser »

Some games can last over an hour and it's ridiculous that they can be decided by a single missclick since there is no way to take an action back. If I am playing with 2 friends we just want to have the best game we can. Let's be honest, the UI is not amazing and sometimes mistakes do happen. We just lost 30+ minutes of game progress because of no takeback option...

Hi

Takeback are painful for opponents. Imagin your opponents constantly playing and canceling their moves: you would not be satisfied either.

We do implement undo when this is absolutely needed. This is the case for example in Through the Ages or Tzolkin.

If you have a specific suggestion about a game+action that should support undo, please post it there and we will look into it, but we dont want to implement it everywhere.

In Carcassonne I would like to be able to redo the placing of a tile. I cannot tell you how many times I have placed a tile, then when I go to place a meaple I realize I cannot place the meaple where I wanted because someone has already claimed the farm/road/city.

I found this thread by searching "undo". My friends and I have all individually been burned by wrong clicks in games. We love the site and love the games but at the end of a hotly contested game a misclick can be rage inducing.

What about this....????

What if there was something similar to the abandon game or switch to turn based feature? What if someone could ask to redo a move and the group all has to unanimously agree to it?

This way if someone asks to redo a move with people they know, they discuss it, or just agree to it quickly and the move is taken back. But if playing with strangers and a redo is asked for, a simple "no" from a single player makes it not happen and the game moves on. That way it's no different than it is now when playing with unknown players, but allows for people playing with known friends to play more similarly to how they would in person.

**edit: actually, what if this feature wasn't even in a standard game.... but if you set up the game you can click to allow it.

There was a recent discussion about confirmation buttons and undo in this thread.
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... =3&t=15847

I think that undo and confirmation buttons are game-specific topics, if you think that this feature is missing for a game, you should make a specific suggestion for this game in the bug section so that people can vote on it. Start a discussion about it in the game-specific forum. (AFAIK: Developers get informed when you post a suggestion or a bug dedicated to their game in the bug section.)

It worked out for Tzolkin for which undo was on the wishlist for years and finally it happened, undo was implemented. You should be aware that an undo feature can be hard to implement.
