restriction by timezone

Post by gnocchi donkey »

As BGA has grown and increased so many options I have been surprised there is not a timezone restriction. Now you can have TB 6 moves a day but yet nothing to keep playing together. if we could restrict a TB game to eg: the Americas, Europe/W Africa, India/central Asia/ E Africa. E Asia/Australia, you could actually get a TB game to move without having the one player lag the game because they are in China when you are in NY. This would also benefit the person who was the oddball in time so they were not timing out because they did not notice other players were all in same area and their turn came up at midnight. The BGA server is smart enough to know whether you are on a computer, phone or tablet. It is smart enough to know what timezone your IP is in. Thoughts?

Not everybody plays at the same time in their time zone.

This is why the playing hours setting is available for fast turn based (more than 2(?) moves per day). It allows for several moves to be required in a day, but allow people to do other activities such as work and sleep.

Restricting by time zone of the player's device doesn't work in all cases. I am in the US Mountain Time zone. However, I work the night shift. My prime playing times correspond better to Europe and Japan than they do to other US players. Restricting to physical location would reduce the number of tables available, without increasing the chances of making a timely move.
