How do I host a game with just my friends?

Post by workinprogress »

Hi all.

I'm looking for simple step by step instructions on how to host a game that only includes friends that I invite. I have done this successfully a few times by using the "play with friends" button and selecting a few friends, but from here on things get hazy. There is no "start game" or "send invite' button. Sometimes things work simply, other times we spend a bunch of time hoping in and out of games where others outside of our group are trying to play.

What are the next steps from here to send out the invite?

Thanks for your help!

I had the same trouble. I could invite my friends, but then there was no way to start the game. I also could not get the video chat or audio chat to work so we could chat while waiting. Do those chats work on the phone app or does it have to be on a computer?

I had the same issues. You'd think there would be a straightforward way to do this, but no. I invited a friend, she got the invitation, even restricted table access to "My Friends", and she's the only friend I have on here. But there just was never any mechanism to actually begin the game without opening it up to strangers.

If anybody could help us with this, that'd be great.

Have you tried restricting the player numbers to just the people you have invited. For example, if you have 2 friends, you set the number of maximum players to three (you and your two friends), then when your friends join even if you open it to other players it's already full? I am not sure if this will be a solution to your problems but just a possible idea.

There are options to restrict the game to certain people. Look for the small text option "Restrict Table Access" when you create a table, and you can set it to friends, or to any group you're a member of. You can then go to the invite players option and that should let you do what you're asking for.

This is exactly what I was looking for to restrict a game to one of my groups.

Thanks!

No worries, I wish it was a bit more visible though... It also remembers how you set a game up, so you might need to change it later if you want to play a game with the wider community - I try to have my first few games with friends to make sure I'm good with how to play

I have had very similar problems.
Just trying to play with family members, when I create a table, the "Start game" button is sometimes only there briefly and if I don't click it quickly, I'm left unable to start the game.
Only options are "open table to other players", "discuss", "how to play" and "quit".

I'll have to explore the "restrict table access" option, but it does look like a bug of sorts, having already said I want to play with friends, shouldn't that already be restricting access?

I also want to be able to configure the game but I can't do that until I create the table (when my friends can start to join) but I can't change the game configuration once anyone has joined. So we end up in the phone saying "wait, ready...join now!...oh, no, there no start button, quit and I'll try again"!

Maybe restrict table access will fix all this, I'll try tonight.
