In waiting for not only duel-kind tourneys

Post by Sleeping Dragon »

Hello everyone!
Most of the common board games give you better expirience when you play more than duel-kind game.
Unfortunately for today there is no tournaments where BGA allow to make "table" for more than two players.
What you guys think if we will try to host it by ourselves?
For seeeding players and brackets we could use something like challonge or other system.
We could start from something simple, for example:
1) 16 players registered
2) randomizer will sort it for the 4 groups
3) one of the players will open the table using option/rules about addons and turn time that we post in the event opening
4) winners of each matches meet in final one
***for the premium games there could be a problem if we will not have enough premium accounts, but this is not a part of our basis discussion for now

just a short and simple example, there are many options and ways to improve it

yep, there are always ways of hosting unofficial self-made tournaments, even with wild quirks that normal tournaments do not necessarily enforce (like, a raceFTG tournament but with a couple cards banned). the problem is, nobody bothers to actually host one, and is questionable whether that many people would actually join.

That is why i\ve opened the thread at forum :D

I have some expirience with hosting events for online TCG, but i hope to gather a group of organizers.
I have no doubt that we will able to gather 16-32 players for some popular games like Carcassonne, 7 Wonders, Tokaido, Love letter and many other that really shine when you play a game of four. ;)

There has been 2 very successful 5-player 7 wonder tournaments:

by Brisbane Roar, et. al.
They also organised some of the most popular tournaments ever (AFAIK) with the BGA Olympics

There is a discord server, I don't know much about it, turtler7 runs it I think (if it's still going?).
They organise some funky stuff on there.

You could create a BGA group. Players get notifications when there is a new post.

Hi yes we used to have a group called Tokaido addicts that ran some very successful 4 player tournaments. It became quite a regular feature for our group for a while, so for sure it can work

Nice!
I hope we will spread it over some games around the community on regular basis and possibly will lure attention of the Dev.team

I'll soon write a blog post about it, just wanted to share the idea.

For games where there are n people at the table it is in most cases possible to create "complete" tournaments in the spirit of sport leagues, i.e. everybody gets to play with everybody else exactly once, everybody plays at each round. This has the advantage that people participate in the "whole" tournament, as opposed to being eliminated on the way.

3-players games: 9 players total (5 of which premium, for games that require it), 4 rounds
4-players games: 16 players total (7 premium), 5 rounds
5-players games: 25 players total (9 premium), 6 rounds

and so on for 7, 8, and 9-player games (6-players games are trickier to address).

Do you think that this might be of interest?
