Should playing with friends still affect reputation?

Post by Bobnugget »

I would like to learn a new game with friends. As such the turn based timer will be too quick for us to work through the rules and play along. This would (I assume) mean that we all get penalised even though we are mutually happy to take longer.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to remove/suspend the turn based timer for a real-time game with friends so we don't get bad Kama?

Set the game up in "Training Mode." ELO will be turned off and there will be no timer. I think (but am not certain) that you can also quit these games with no penalty. However, if playing with friends and the decision is made to not finish the game, it works better for the system to abandon the game. Abandoning the game provides a cleaner/faster database closure than if the system has to look for old games.

You can also switch to turn-based, rather than real-time play if you want to keep ELO on. If everyone is sitting at the table and wanting to play at the same time, 24 hours per move should be enough time... :)

Thanks heaps! Think that make sense - I'll give that a go.

I learnt the hard way that quitting has major penalties... I hadn't realised and now have a poor reputation even though I'd just been learning how to use the system with my partner. Doh!

Anyhow - thanks for the reply.

As Jest Phulin said, you can switch to turn based. But I also wanted to add that (afaik) if you are "mutually happy" to take longer, then there isn't a penalty for running over time. Just don't click the big red "Skip the turns of the players out of time" button.

Out of time/slow play is listed in one's profile. While running out of time doesn't reduce one's reputation, you get a +1 to reputation for finishing a game without running out of time.
