Credit where credit is due

Just now I updated some translations that were done by another user. I did not wish to correct the words, but only the capitalisation and spelling. Even though the other user did the actual translating, right now I am the one credited with the translation. I don't want those translations to be validated in my name, as I don't think I deserve it just for proofreading them. Can there be a way to give up my claim on those strings, apart from contacting the user and telling him to re-update with my own words so they're listed as his?
