One question I have is if 1st/2nd/etc ELO awards are permanent, how does that work for new games?

Does the first person who wins a new game when it comes out on the site get a permanent 1st place ELO trophy?

yeah I think they will need special conditions when they release new games to prevent a bunch of people getting these trophies without really earning it.

A possible solution to this is to sent a minimum time & game requirement after the game is released before 'top x ' trophies can be awarded, say 2 weeks and 20 games, depending on the game length/luck factor

Maybe the number 1 title award would also require you to be rated expert. It was always too easy to get the
Number 1 award when a game came out.

In the meantime, the new rules are:
_ A tournament can bring a maximum of 300 XP.
_ A tournament with less than 10 players registered worth 0 XP.
_ The number of XP points bring by tournament has been slightly decreased.
I think that It is bad. Every tournament is different. You can play more or less games. And 300Xp in every tournament is bad.
For example: Deathmatch with 5 round is same as deathmach with 8 round and tournaments with 20 games.
It is not same.

I don't know how the reward was calculated in past but in every touranment you can gain different count.
And what realtime trounament with 8 players? No Xp for this?

What is the XP?

In the meantime, the new rules are:
_ A tournament can bring a maximum of 300 XP.
_ A tournament with less than 10 players registered worth 0 XP.
_ The number of XP points bring by tournament has been slightly decreased.

Again: this is a temporary measure to make sure no one is using tournament to cheat the system. This will be updated again later.
I think tournaments for less popular games brings a little bit interest to them. I made sevaral round robin tournaments for Kalah, part of them did't reached 10 players. It's not fair to give 0XP. There still have been matches and winners. Give at least 3XP for winner.
If keep in this way, then just don't allow to create tournaments with less that 10 players.

XP for tournament first places should be calculated taking these numbers: how many matches played and how high was avarege ELO of opponents. And different algorithm for different type of tournaments. Single elimination tournament - higher K factor for game played.

Max 300XP is too less for largest tournaments, like in Carcassonne swiss system with 202 players https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=35069

As for minimum players for tournaments:
- single elimination: 8
- swiss system: 6
- round robin: 6

Why there is still possible to create tournament for 2 players?

There are some games for which I have, let's say, the top 3 achievement because I'm currently ranked 3rd, but I don't have the top 5, top 10 and top 20 achievements. Do I need to go down the rankings to get them? :D

I hope you will make a better system for tournaments points.

Old system was extrem, with 150 points to earn for à 30 player tournament in a Game, and 12 000 for a same tournament in another game.

But the new system if frustrating with systemic 300/150/75 points reward.
A tournament with 12 bad players and an other one with 50 including 5 top10 containder is not the same !

And for little games, a lowcost gain could be good instead of 0 !

the same 300 XP for wining any tournament - for 10 people or for 250 people - for 5 games or for 20 games - it's a total disappointment
