Who was the target of the defamation? What and where was it said?
It must be quite extensive to have affected the public order or morality.
Re: Restricting chat to premium
I don't know what was said, or what the response was. Having said that however....
Considering these extraordinary times, and the unusual stresses many of us are under, I invite everyone to view each others' actions (and/or lack of actions) with compassion and not in black & white terms (i.e. not with rigidity). Note I'm not saying there isn't right and wrong, but these are tough times for everyone — and finding the right balance on nuanced issues is hard even in calmer times.
Admins have a tough job. I think we can cut them a little slack, and appreciate their efforts to make this a better place for everyone — regardless of whether they acted with a strong enough stance in the past... Wouldn't you agree?

They were defaming legitimate news sources and spreading dangerous disinformation during a global pandemic. I seriously don't understand how anyone still fails to grasp how this is a problem.

So they defamed a news source? Not someone, a person, on BGA?DressToKILT wrote: ↑19 April 2020, 02:02They were defaming legitimate news sources and spreading dangerous disinformation during a global pandemic. I seriously don't understand how anyone still fails to grasp how this is a problem.
You say that they spread "dangerous disinformation". Where?
Considering how you claim it defames a news source and that it had an effect on the public at large, I would expect it to be quite prevalent on BGA.

This person was, without prompting, spreading disinformation and saying that legitimate news agencies were lying. If they were doing it to me, it's almost certain they were doing it to others. The suggested remedy? "Give them a red thumb." For some reason, this was not an option for that player. I was also ignored when I reported that.N_Faker wrote: ↑19 April 2020, 11:08 So they defamed a news source? Not someone, a person, on BGA?

I'm assuming you are referring to public red thumbs, they can only be applied if you played a game with them or received a private message from them within a certain timeframe.DressToKILT wrote: ↑19 April 2020, 12:45The suggested remedy? So they messaged you privately, and you assume that they likely messaged others as well. And you reported them.DressToKILT wrote: ↑19 April 2020, 12:45This person was, without prompting, spreading disinformation and saying that legitimate news agencies were lying. Considering the scope, it seems unreasonable to say that it 'defamed' the news source to any significant degree or had any effect on the public.
Yet, I would assume that they will be moderated if they have been going around messaging multitudes of people and was reported for it. Depending on if what is said is cause for moderation of course.

Re: Restricting chat to premium
I did. The "conversation," as it were, happened in the chat of a game. Afterward, I was not given the option to give them a red thumb. I have the option for every other player I've encountered, but not this one.
No, they did this in open chat in a game.
My point is that the moderators didn't think that spreading lies and disinformation about a deadly pandemic was cause for moderation, so I would not assume that.

Go to their profile page, in the 'Reputation' section you should see the thumb icons or only one if it has been applied already.DressToKILT wrote: ↑21 April 2020, 18:43 Afterward, I was not given the option to give them a red thumb. You should be able to select the thumb you wish to apply there.
