Farmers scoring points without adjecent city

In a few games I played, I saw players putting farmers in places where they would never score points to my knowledge, like within a ringroad.
However, when the final scoring came, they got points for these.
Are the rules here on Boardgame Arena different for Farmers than in the regular board game?
Did I miss anything?

no, that should not happen. But if it's a bug, you should post the table number so that the developers can analyze the cause.
