Different Trainings Mode

Post by dibog »

Hi all,

there is one thing which prevents me to jump into a game with foreign peoples:

I maybe know the game, but I don't know how to play the game on BoardGameArena.
I personally don't want to annoy the other players because I don't know hot to play the game on this website.
Therefore I would suggest to have a different kind of trainings mode, where I get shown try out how to play the
game w/o other players.

Could there be some kind of special solo mode, where I enact a number of players and get shown how
to play that game? It is not necessary to be able to complete the game, but I should get shown the different
moves which are possible.

Another addition to this mode:

I could use this mode also to learn friends how to play this game, for this
it would also be necessary to show the different game elements (like the cards),
to explain them how the game will work out.

E.g. 7 Wonders or Race for Galaxy: I would like to show some cards to the other players to be able to explain what they do.

Thanks,
Dieter

Hi,
There are several things that already exist.

There is a "hotseat" mode (available for premium members), that you can use to play a game alone, playing the turns for all players. You can find some (not many) informations in the FAQ, in the Premium section.

I think that it is possible somehow (can't remember how) to show your cursor to opponents, to point some game elements while explaining things. Maybe someone else will be able to say more than me about this.

A tutorial feature is planned, but it is still a work in progress. See Tutorial to learn games [BETA] (a few tutorials are already available for testing).

If you're afraid of annoying players when learning a game (or the interface of a game), you can join Game Tutors group (and/or Talkative and friendly games group), and ask in the group chat for the game you want to try. People in these groups won't be annoyed if you take your time, especially if you say them that it's your first game here.

But there is something that doesn't exist (at least for most games, didn't check for all of them), and I think it should exist because it could be a simple thing to do and a very simple way to learn for new players: a "How to use the interface" section (with screenshots) in the game help page. (The game help page comes from BGA wiki and can be found on each game presentation page, in the "How to play" section when clicking "see more".) I should myself have added this on a few games, and didn't do it, so don't think I'm complaining that other people didn't do it. I'm just saying that WE should do it.
