Skat with computer newbie

Post by Chrisfs »

Hi,

i just joined to play with friends and noticed that there was Skat. My 80 yr old dad loves Skat but has no one to play it with, (especially with stay at home happening here, but even before). While he's great at Skat , he would be very new to playing on a computer and would take a bit to get the hang of the mechanics here. Do you think players would be patient enough with him to go through the first few games with him taking a bit each turn and possibly making some mistakes ? He would pick it up after a game or two but the first few would need to be patient and nice to him,
Is that a reasonable thing to expect here ?

I suggest you play with your dad a Skat training game, to walk him through the game interface.

I'd say most users of this site are patient with newbies but as always on the internet, there is a good chance that your dad will face some rude people in his first matches. Escpecially Skat can be taken very seriously by some and the frustration to loose because your partner played dumb moves seems to unlock emotions for some people. (I'd say learning new games where you are just single player is way more relaxed than starting new games with teamplay involved.)

So I also strongly suggest that you play your first games with your dad yourself or with family.
