Time-limit based game and scoring

Post by Ringknight05 »

Hi,

I am developping a BGA version of the game Stock Ticker (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2680/stock-ticker). The goal of the game is to have a maximum value of stocks by trading and getting dividends in a pre-defined time limit. The time limit is decided by the players at the start of the game.

Two questions come to my mind:
- First of all, how can I within BGA create a game that do not have a limit in terms of turns or actions, but instead of time (I think it would be feasible to have pre-defined game lenghts (like 30 minutes / 1h / 1h30) but then how would I deal with players that are taking their time to play? If this is not possible, instead of having a time limit, I could impose a "Turn amount" limit. Which would be that players will each play a limited amount of turn for a game (Let's say 500 turns). Please let me know you feedback on that.

- Second question is more a to get feedback and ideas on how to calculate victory points or scoring. Since each game will have a different amount of turns, I thought I would calculate the score of each player with a ratio of player-value divided by the time/amount of turns. Otherwise, players with longers games will have more chance to get higher value than shorter games. This would bring a similar chance for people playing shorter games and longer games to end up on the leaderboard. Please let me know what you think.

My game is called holymolly in the BGA studio for now :D

Regards.

I would suggest to stay the closest to game rules.

Instead of checking a number of turns, you can check the time the game started, which seems to be global 0.
If the game is played in real time, opponents can skip turns of players with no time left. On turn-based mode, I think players would need to define an amount of turns.

You have this:

http://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Main_g ... exion_time

Reflexion time
function giveExtraTime( $player_id, $specific_time=null )
Give standard extra time to this player.
Standard extra time depends on the speed of the game (small with "slow" game option, bigger with other options).
You can also specify an exact time to add, in seconds, with the "specified_time" argument (rarely used).
