Speed limit warning

Post by Toadounet »

Hello!

After playing a few games of Rallyman: GT and enjoying this game quite a lot, I think a lot of people are getting out of the track by not respecting speed limitations, me included! Although I do now understand the rules, it is very easy to miss or forget about the small numbers, and get out of the track for this reason. I've heard this complain in different chats and therefore decided to post this message.

I guess being aware of the board and where and when it is necessary to go in diagonal is part of the game, but I think it's very easy to miss, and I can't imagine how it would be on a mobile device. As someone would almost never voluntarily go offtrack by not respecting the speed limit, I think it'd be nice to have a warning, like "you're going above the speed limit, do you confirm your move?".

That would make this type of error much less common, and the players could focus on the strategic side of the game, where there are already a lot of potential mistakes to be made.

I also noticed that and I agree with this suggestion :) I saw many people lost a game making this mistake, but the strategy is not to win because of a missclick, in real game it probably would just not appened :)

I've just been playing on this table :
https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=89189095

Unlucky to play 6th, with 2 extra squares before rolling a dice...

first player did not know the game and only played a 1 !

second player has lost control crossing a 1 limit with 2... anyway, he was able to replace all dice without penalty despite a big mistake.

third one crashed and get 00 and yellow flag...

Guess what : 4th, 5th and 6th were stuck, unable to cross starting line...

leader (second player) was able to fly away...

Luckily, someone has quit the game and we were able to rapidly stop the rot.

I think the mistake is part of the game.

Often (especially at the beginning) it happens to me too.

A game that warned you of mistakes would be too "commanded", too automatic.

The game is gorgeous and deserves our maximum concentration and attention (and opponents also deserve it)

Even in real races all the drivers know very well what gear and at what speed they have to take a curve, but if they are not very concentrated they sometimes make mistakes.
It is right.

(and sometimes it's nice to cheer on an opponent's mistake! )

This is just my opinion. ;)

I get your point but I don't think it's entirely true.

IMO, the game should mimic the experience when played IRL.
And IRL you will DEFINITELY not be penalized that way; if an light error has been made in programming the dice, I surmised it would be OK just to shift it in a safe position and continue the road (unless your opponent is Walter in the Big Lebowski...).

Truth has to be faced; this is VERY frustatrating no matter how it happened. And it can be very difficult to maintain full concentration when the game goes long, especially when you wait the others to play... In some ways it can be harder than playing the physical game.

A suggestion has been raised here to put such a warning system : https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=16498
Unfortunately the dev quickly put it in rejected state so you can no longer vote for it...
Maybe opening another one would be worthy?

Cheers!

I agree with agodd.

If the game warned you about a possible mistake, this would be too easy. And mistakes are also what makes the game fun. Otherwise it would be almost impossible to win a game if you don't start at pole position.

When I make a mistake (and I do plenty of them !), it's totally my fault and not the game's fault.

I agree that there should be a warning. It doesn't make for a fun game when people miss a little detail like this and are heavily penalized. It happened 4 times in my first multiplayer game, not fun at all. When it ruins a close game, that's not fun.

To those who are saying it is part of the game, I think that's nonsense. The game is in planning your trajectory, positioning yourself, and deciding how much to push your luck. Making a clear mistake in planning should have a warning. If I was playing with somebody live, I'd definitely say "Are you sure? You're going to crash".

I do not agree with that, like Link774. This game is about planning and luck management; so, even in pole position, you must deal with that (plan better than opponents and manage the risks).

I agree with you.

Imagine a chess game interface that would warn a player who positions a piece (before confirming his move), that if he plays this move, he is mated at the next move.
Learning requires a penalty for the mistakes.

I agree that players should be careful when playing the game. In a game of beginners, a lot of people will LOC, especialls since the rules are quite complex. Just don't take the game to seriously for the first few rounds until you get the grip - then you won't loose control due to speed.

And about mobile: For me the game is close to unplayable in mobile mode anyway - making the rules easier isn't a solution for bad UI.
