How can I avoid a player without using the red thumb?

At times I don't like the style of some players. They are not doing anything wrong per se but the way they play is not enjoyable for me. I prefer not to play with them but my only option seems to be the red thumb. I don't want to hurt their reputation but I don't know any other way to avoid them.

When you red-thumb, a dialogue pops up asking whether you want to avoid the player, or whether everyone should. I think that if you choose the first option (just for me), then it doesn't affect their reputation.
