The Bizley League

Post by Toratha »

UPDATE: I am discontinuing Stone Age and Clans of Caledonia in September unless anyone objects. My plan is to stick to two-player-only games for leagues.

Currently Included Games
  • Yahtzee
  • Chess960
For each included game, there will be a season (a round robin tournament) each month. Each match is up to 2 days and starts every other day (July 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc, up to July 23rd).

Divisions

For each included game, the league is broken into divisions. To start with there is only one division. Each division is restricted to a maximum of 12 players.

September Divisions
  • Yahtzee First Division
(https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=59493)
  • Yahtzee Second Division
(https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=59494)
  • Yahtzee Third Division
(https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=59495)
  • Chess960 First Division
(https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=59516)
  • Chess960 Second Division
(https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=59515)

Qualification

To begin with, you need only be one of the first 12 players to register before July 1st. This will qualify you for the First Division of the Bizley League for the game you registered for. For the second season, the same players who registered for the first season of the First Division will be sent invitations to join for the next season. They will again join the First Division, which will always be the highest division. Participation will then be invite-only, and the only way to enter the division will be via previous participation or promotion from the Second Division.

Promotion, Relegation, and Ascension

Promotion and Relegation will come into play in the second season. In season two, the Second Division will be created and again it will be open to everyone for its initial season. At the end of season two, the top three players in the Second Division will join the First Division and the bottom three players in the First Division will join the Second Division.

Finally, for every player that failed to re-join from the previous season, a player will ascend from each division other than the First Division, so that there are 12 players in each division; that is, 12 invites to be sent for the next season of each division. In effect, this means less relegation and potentially more promotion.

Example:

Absence: 4 players fail to accept their invites for the second season of Division 2
Promotion: The players ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Second Division will be promoted
Relegation: The players ranked 6th, 7th, and 8th in the First Division will be relegated
Ascension: The players who had been ranked 6th, 7th, and 8th in the First Division will re-join the First Division and the player ranked 4th in the Second Division will be promoted to the First Division.

You may think that it would be better for there to always be a penalty for being at the bottom of a division, and suggest promoting an additional 4 players (those ranked 4th to 7th in the lower division), but the mechanics I have decided on make achieving entrance to a given division more rewarding, and hopefully encourage players to stay with us.

Expansion

An additional division will be added each season so long as the lowest division is not empty due to the ascension mechanic. Otherwise, entrance to that division will be open to everyone.

Inclusion of Additional Games

Please reply to this thread if you would like me to include another game in the league. If two other people second your suggestion, I will add it.

Please keep in mind that I cannot re-invite you to a given division if you have registered for a lower division league of the same game. I am sure no one does this intentionally and I am doing my best to let people know when this happens.

Any reason why you halved the playing time? With multiple time zones, i really think that isn't enough time for people to finish the game. I hadn't realised this change when i accepted the latest invite.
