Questions about premium

Hey I'm kind of new to the community but it is confusing hehe...

1. I want to play with friends and family but 2 of us are in the same place, and other 2 are in another place together. If one of us at the table is premium, does the ip restrictions free for everyone at the table? Meaning people can share ip even if the premium was already sharing with someone (and the other people are sharing ip)?

2. If a member has premium, can we all use voice and video chat (non-premium too)?

3. If a member has premium, can he play with non-premiums a premium game by inviting them to the table?

Yes to 1 and 3. I think yes to 2 as well but haven’t used the voice.

To be honest the voice chat function isn't that great. It's hassle to get it working and it only works when you are playing a particular game, you then lose communication when you finish that game. If you are playing with friends, I would suggest using a tool like Skype or Zoom to chat in-game.

The ins-site voice chat function is only worth using with people that I wouldn't give my Zoom address to. But I don't know anyone that I want to play games with and chat to that I would worry about giving my contact details to.

If you want to have audio chat with the people you're playing with, I'd strongly recommend using Discord; it's both anonymous (if you so desire) and has much better audio quality than either Skype or Zoom (and I assume also the site audio functionality).

3 is definitely yes. Premium is only required in order to make the invitation. Anyone else can accept it.

I'd be careful about 1 as I'm not sure that's a yes. I would not be comfortable paying for premium under the assumption that that's going to work, and then find out it doesn't. If someone wants to be premium anyway, then go for it. If you would only do that in order to play with this specific group of people, I'd wait until an admin answers it for sure.

2 - not sure but I'm guessing yes. I don't think where the other players are located is relevant to this. In other words, 1 & 2 are separate rules and not related as far as I'm aware.

However, I agree with Giordano on that. I've not used the voice chat here, but that's not something that is easy to make work well and consistently, and it does make sense that you can't use it anymore once the game is done. I also use an outside app, but we use Discord.

This has been answered several times before. If there is at least one premium member at a table, the "cannot have multiple people from the same IP at the same table" restriction is completely removed.

And the overly long explanation, from someone who has been around long enough to see the progression... The ban on multiple people from the same IP was put into place at the request of game publishers, not at the request of players wanting to prevent cheating (like the ban at most poker sites). The reasoning was that if a group could sit down at the same location and play the game for free on BGA, there would be no reason for any of that group to buy a physical copy of the game, and the publisher would not make any money. But, by putting the restriction in and having some of the membership fees be paid to the publishers, they would gain income. Since they are getting income, it doesn't make a big difference if the same IP ban is lifted for one location or the entire table.
