Well, we may do that. However, this case is very rare. Apart from new games, games tends to stay in their respective "categories", and for new games if your game category has changed this is highly probable than your rank has decreased.

The logic is:
_ you win an achievement after a game played, only.
_ the situation is appreciated at this exact moment.

I may looks "illogical" in some situations, but it has its own logic :)

The policy (assuming it actually works) that achievement XP values are updated when someone plays after the category of a game has changed is nice, however there is a glaring issue. Suppose someone achieves a rank in a game while it is quite popular. Once it is less popular, that player is motivated to avoid attaining that rank again (or playing while maintaining their rank) as it will cause them to lose the experience they had previously (take andycupid in Battle of LITS for an example). This goes contrary to the design of this system to encourage players to continue playing once they have a high rank.
this policy is definitely bugged because I've never gotten updated trophies for anything that has gone up in rank (I believe the intention is you can't get the lower trophy...but the reality is once you have one trophy you don't get another trophy up or down).

Ah yes, it seems I was mistaken. But the point that the policy is bad still stands.

cosmosis wrote: 15 April 2020, 21:56 One question I have is if 1st/2nd/etc ELO awards are permanent, how does that work for new games?

Does the first person who wins a new game when it comes out on the site get a permanent 1st place ELO trophy?
Good point.

TOP Elo achievements are now restricted to 300+ ELO. So the first player to reach 300 ELO will get the achievement first.

However, the XP points awarded by this achievement depends on the number of ranked players at the moment you earn it. So gaining an achievements early, when there are not much players in the system, does not bring you so many XP.

Now the 2 additional questions you may have:
  • Does it means that if no one has more than 300 ELO, no one gets the "Top ELO achievement"? => yes. But we think the "top ELO" are not very significant otherwise.
  • If I'm the first to get the "Top 1" Elo for a new game, I don't earn much XP. What if 1 month later, when this achievement has an highest "XP value", I gain this achievement again? => Your XP is for this achievement is increased.
Hi, I have achieved 300+ in a game and am within the top 20 ranked players, but did not receive the Top 20 medal. Are there any other conditions needed to be met before getting it? I have received a Top 20 medal in another game, so not sure what is different.
Thanks,
Jasper

If you managed to get the best ELO for a given game, you get the "Top 1 ELO" achievement and you keep it forever. The reason of this change can be found in the "Why did you do this change?" question above.
Hello!
Explain, please, why XP is accrued so strangely for leadership in the rank of the Spyrium game. For the second place 5k XP, for the first 6K XP?
In all other games I see that the first place has twice as much XP as the second.

with new game, as a top 1, you need to lower your ELO to get top2, top3 , top5. Is the xp system encourage one to lose? Or can one get the achievements automaticly?

Points awarded is based on number of players in the game. The vast majority of games that aren’t among the most popular have switched the awards multiple times in the past 3 months. Most went up in april with a surge in players but have come back down in june and july.

It is strange to do it this way and then stick people with a trophy worth less and not ever have the chance for the better trophy.

What does 'number of players in the game' mean? Players that have played the game ever? Within a specific timeframe?

I also don't understand the behavior of people dropping out of the high scores. It seems that people are dropped from the high scores if they don't play for a while. So getting to 1st place in a game is just getting to 1st place within the subset of players that have played recently, not first place ever on the site. Is that correct?

Are there numbers for these things anywhere? How long would you be need inactive, and how many players are needed for the trophy point cutoffs?

It seems like a compounding of rules that leads to a system where you get a lot of weird edge cases.

there are not numbers published anyone. it is number of active players (within 2 months). players drop off the leaderboard if they are inactive for that time.
