Do you red thumb players who boot?

I got correctly moderated for telling an annoying player to F off. Fair enough, I lost my temper and I shouldn't have done it.

Since that moderation, I've behaved impeccably, got my reputation back up to 90+ - and today I've found that I've been moderated again.

The only thing I can think of is that if I'm playing a game, and a player runs out of time and is unresponsive, I boot them. Would this get me red thumbed by other players in the game?

I red-thumb players who skip only when I'm under the impression that they are skipping in bad faith.

For example, in a turn-based game of Carcassonne (4 turns/day), someone had booted a highly ranked player that had only gone over about an hour in the penultimate round of the game. Doing this gained them considerably more ELO points than they would have had they let the game finish. There was no reason to believe the skipped player wouldn't have taken their turn if they hadn't been skipped at the first opportunity.

Real-time games are a grey area. Everyone at the table will have a different level of patience depending on how well they're doing vs the "sunk cost" of how far the game has progressed. Eventually it becomes a safe bet that a player is not coming back for whatever reason. Sometimes, I've seen cases where a player would rather abandon a game they're not going to win because they can play short games to quickly recover the penalty to a 100% rating. I also red-thumb these players if it is clear they have a history of doing this.

I wouldn't red-thumb someone for skipping in a real-time game unless it was obvious they were skipping just to get a better ranking, and I would consider "obvious" to be within seconds of going over and against a high-ranked player.

Undoubtedly, yes.

Certain users will even actively pressure others to give public red thumbs for such.

Never forget two pieces of information, though.

1) It is perfectly within your rights to boot as soon as a player goes one second over time. They committed to play the game in a timely manner, and they failed to honor that agreement.

2) Red thumbs are subjective. As such, people will red thumb for almost any reason.

I did one recently where I've red thumbed a palyer that booted, but that was more that everyone else had agreed to abandon, they declined that option and choose to boot the person that had become inactive while waiting for the arena game to start.

But I think it's only because of how the current arena mode is set up with auto accept that I'd even consider giving a red thumb.

And certain users will actively blatantly lie about certain other users about such, to what ends one can scarcely imagine.

Understood. However, I will not sit back and pretend that N_Faker has not REPEATEDLY misrepresented and lied about my comments and positions on red-thumb issues. I will continue to challenge that user on that until it ceases.
