How is win % calculated on the "xp" page?

Post by CB Droege »

So, I'm looking at my stats pages, and I see, on my "xp" page are listed win percentages for all my favorites.

I can tell the numbers here are not simply a percentage of games won, so how is that number calculated? What is it actually telling me?

It's as if they were 2 player games.

So if you win 1 game in a 3 player match. Then you'll get a 150% win rate.

To get a calculated win rate of 50% which is the absolute average for everyone:

4-player game:
25% likely to win
e.g. 2 wins in 8 games, actual win rate 25%, adjusted calculated win rate = 50%.

2-player game:
50% likely to win
e.g. 4 wins in 8 games, actual win rate 50% and adjusted calculated win rate = 50%.

Okay, so... It wants to simulate 2 player stats to normalize across games, I get that part, but then instead of taking a multiplayer game as multiple matches (like coming in second of four would count as two wins and one loss, the way the elo system here does) it does some weird math to your total win (first place) percentage, which makes it possible to have a win percentage over 100?

What does that math actually look like?

it only counts 1st place wins.

So if you win 1 game in a 3 player match. Then you'll get a 150% win rate.

Probably this helps you: https://de.boardgamearena.com/forum/vie ... =3&t=15504
But I would agree that it is strange number.

average of [ wins * players / games * 2 ]

if you win 3 out of 4 games, all 4-player :

3 * 4 / 8 = 150%

Numbers over 100% look strange, and when it's 100% and you didn't win all the games.
But it at-least tries to normalise to 50% under different player counts.
