Field Scoring

I seem to get beat by the points my opponent gets for fields. Even when I placed meeples on some. Can someone help explain or show how the fields are scored so that I better understand the points gain? I place them next to fields that get completed but my opponent always beats me and gets the field points.

Hope this question makes sense.

Do you have the most (or tied for the most) farmers in the field? If not, they won't score for you. If your field connects in any way to a region where someone has more farmers, they are considered being in the same field. Simply placing a farmer first won't guarantee that you will eventually score that field.
