Sunday Beefeaters

Post by Wreckage »

This is for all the players in the Beefeater’s league. https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=6704738
Anyone with a ''strong'' rating or higher in 6 nimmt can join our weekly competition. We play tactics/pro with 5 players only.

We’ve made a couple policy changes, and there are a few up for discussion. Also, any suggestions are welcome here.

Item 1: We are now counting your 3 best weeks out of the last 4 weeks. So if you miss 1 week it doesn’t hurt your scores so much.
All scores previous to the latest 4 weeks no longer count, just like before.

Item 2: When players tie on a game they split the points from the 2 (or more) positions. So if players tie for 3rd place, they will both get 2.5 points instead of getting 3 points for 3rd. A tie for 1st means both players will get 5 points.

Item 3: Ties in the standings will be determined by which player gained the most points on the most current week. For instance, whatshisbucket and I both have 48 points, but he gained 15 points this week while I gained only 12. So whatshisbucket wins this tie. If both players gained the same, then we look at the week before that, and so on.

If you missed the current week, this will hurt you in tie breakers. Even though your 3 best weeks are just as good. We are comparing the latest week regardless.

Item 4: If a player needs to leave, or just disappears from the game, first, let’s give them some time to try to get back in the game. If it can’t be avoided, start a new game with a substitute player. When this new game ends, we will add the scores that all the players had from both games to determine the winner, and other positions. It’s basically an extended game.

Item 5: It’s very helpful to have players signed up in advance. Also, part of the idea for this league, is that the leaders who are doing well are forced to play against each other, knocking each other back down a little. So if someone joins late it messes up the system a bit. There could be an advantage for one of the leaders to not sign up until the last minute so that they can play on the lowest table and maybe gain more points. Although I don’t think any of us would start doing that on purpose, I think there should a penalty of 1 point for signing up later than Friday night.

On item 5: how about a league member can only score tournament points if (s)he joins the right table? Otherwise, the result is not taken into account.

You can also avoid last minute tables shuffling by offering the place of not showing up members to the 300+ strangers, exactly as it is currently done for the lowest table. In this case upfront signing up is not necessary, which should save some effort for everyone. I can imagine plenty of people forget to register or not certain up until the last minute.

Hi all !

I know everybody is not a football (=soccer) fan, but coming sunday at 21:00 CET is the Champions League final match; it will be held at the same time than our league.
I tried to play yesterday while watching Sevilla-ManU: a total nightmare, I played awfully and missed most of the football game.

Would it be possible to exceptionnaly postpone our games (or play previous to that, for example 19:00 CET), I mean if everybody agrees?
Or if I register for sunday ask my opponents if they all agree?

I know we should not start creating exceptions, but really, this one football match is once per year and I guess I am not the only one to think about this conflict of interests.

Anyway, Wreckage, good job!

Wehmsi, you are not the first to bring up the Champions game this Sunday. We could move it up like you suggest, but that might not be fair to someone who can't. Maybe we should cancel games for one week?

Option 1 : as planned (but many of us won't attend)
Option 2 : postpone another time/date but all tables play simultaneously (Wreckage choses)
Option 3 : postpone another time/date but players try to agree and each table decides for its new schedule (saturday-tuesday latest for example)
Option 4 : cancel this week (let's call it holiday)

There is no perfect solution. #3 seems possible. I mean, #4 is also OK for me

Any other players that will be effected by this should post here. If it's only going to effect a couple players then I'm inclined to play this Sunday like normal. If it effects more players, I think we could take the week off.

KatyaM, I think it is too harsh for their results to not count at all. We don't want the penalty so high that people decide not to play.

It looks like enough of our players are willing to play Sunday. So we wont cancel. The new change of counting your best 3 of the last 4 weeks is good for times like this.

The penalty for signing up past the deadline is that you might not be able to play that Sunday. The deadline will be Friday night before the competition. At that point if our number of players seats 5 players at each table perfectly, then I will cut it off. If we need a couple players to fill the last table, then I will cut it off as soon as the seats are filled.
