Remove "Master" from filter

Post by Richieddy »

Hi,

I am playing Hanabi several times every day. My Elo is quite high for a player, but I still want it to be higher.
I understood that to earn a lot of elo, I have to play with people who have low Elo.
So I am hosting hanabi games, waiting for low elo players.
Therefore, I can create a filter, which helps me to prevent players with a big amount of Elo to come to my games.
However, there's the problem. It is impossible for me to exclude the players who are in statut "Master". Hence I am forced to kick them from my games.

Would it be possible to add an option in this filter, making us enable to exclude Master players ?

Thanks

This is because you yourself are a master. You are unable to exclude people who are the same status as yourself.

Hi, I think you already have +1200 ELO. Is it fair to let you expel the only players who can make you lose? I think the problem is that you can play with players with a low ELO. Or you shouldn't win anything when you win a game with only players who have a much lower ELO than you.

I think you understood it wrong.

Sure you can gain Elo, slowly, by thrashing lots and lots of new players. But, what's the point?

Hi,

Nairobiny, I think you got it wrong. Hanabi is a teamwork game. It means that I have to cooperate with the other player to win the game and Elo. Less the players have Elo, they are newer and thus it is harder to win.

Meanwhile, I am playing with a player which has +800 elo, and we win the game together, we are getting 0 elo. I feel it is a bit waste of time for me, who like the challenges and the competition.

Writing a description in-house could be possible but that won't prevent them from coming unfortunately.

Wouldn't be it perfect to add an option to automatically exclude pro players ?

Again, you can never have a filter that excludes yourself.

You seem to have already nailed the ELO system hack with your 33% abandonment rate!!! If you had got to 1200 without quitting 1 in 3 games i.e. the more challenging deals etc. perhaps people would admire you for playing with beginners and take your request seriously.

We should be able to set restriction filters as we wish for 'simple' games. Irregardless of how exploitative it may be.

BGA both forces the restriction filters to include your own 'ELO range' and freely allows you to pick and choose who we play with. This only creates needless conflict.

Also, because Hanabi still has a ranking system, people would still wish to rank highly. And the only way for higher ranked users to increase their ELO effectively, due to how the ELO gain has been set up for Hanabi, is of course to play with lower ELO users. It is a god damn toxic pot that is set to boil and it has been boiling for years.
