Rule clarifications for translators and players

Post by gretirse »

The purpose of this post is to gather the most common misundertood rules of the game. The targetted audience is both english-speaking players who missed some parts and non-english players who may also see an imperfect translation. If the rules in your language do not match the descriptions below, check the english version and you may improve the translation.

More information can be found in the official rules or the game wiki (http://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Gamehelpsantorini).

Note that the following is not an official source, I will try to keep it updated based on future answers in this thread.

Hope this will be useful, and enjoy the game!

1) Move vs Force

There are two different ways to update the position of a worker on the board, and the outcome depends on whether the rule used specified "move" or "force". A normal rule is a "move", and powers may enable possibilities to move or force workers to other spaces.

2) Basic winning condition: moving up to level 3

Being forced to level 3 is not a winning condition (this can happen against gods such as Minotaur, or Charon or when playing gods such as Zeus).

Moving to level 3 from level 3 is not a win as you did not move up.

If you moved up to level 3 and did not win, check if a power prevented it (Pegasus, Hera, ...).

3) Why can't I make the legal move I want?

Please check your opponent power (Hypnus, Athena, Aphrodite, Hades, Hippolyta, Persephone, ...).

4) Specific powers
  • All powers:
Check when the power applies (e.g., end of your turn, instead of your build, whole opponent's turn) and to whom it applies (your workers, opponent workers, ...).
  • Apollo / Minotaur:
They cannot move up by more than 1 level, even if there is an opponent worker on the target space (normal movement rules still apply).
  • Persephone:
The power is applied during opponent turns on all workers, so applies if Dionysus or Eris moves Persephone's workers.
  • Persephone / Adonis:
"If possible" means "if a worker can move there". If it cannot build afterwise and therefore loses, the move must still be done (e.g., vs Iris, Apollo, Charybdis). If a god power has to be used in order to allow the move (or must not be used, e.g., Prometheus), the move has to be done. A hero is not required to activate the ability to be able to fulfill the condition; however if the ability is deliberately activated and the condition is now possible to be met, it must be met.
  • Tyche / Dionysus:
Additional turns are separate turns. For instance, Persephone power is applied on each turn, and Adonis power on the first turn only.
