What are the burn rules when the dice are used in Flaming Pyramids?

Post by ACHolmes »

I have found that when the dice are used to determine a fire, etc., the coal or flame thrower shows as burning along with the wheat and/or wood, but only about 25 percent of the time is the coal or flame thrower removed from the tiles, most of the time it stays in the pyramid after the other burned tiles are put back in the draw stack. When the dice are not used and the normal fire rules are in effect, they are always removed from the game when they burn. Is this a bug or is there some rule I am missing?

No, it's not a bug and yes it is a rule that you're missing.

Without the dice, the 'burn' rules are used every time a 1 or a 7 tile is next to, respectively, a grass or grass/wood tile. The burn rules in these circumstances are the 'remove' rules: the 1 or 7 tile is removed, everything that can be set on fire is set on fire and a collapse is triggered.

With the dice, the 'burn' rules are only triggered on placement; they are not triggered if they happen during a collapse. The burn rules in these circumstances are determined by the dice. The 'remove' rule above happens only sometimes. There is also a 'replace' rule, in which the 1/7 remains; a 'nothing' rule, in which nothing at all happens; and an 'explode' rule, in which an explosion is caused.

With both the dice and non-dice rules, you always get an explosion if a 1 or 7 tile ends up next to another 1 or 7 tile.

The icons for 'remove' and 'replace' on the dice look fairly similar (it's all in the direction of the arrow), so maybe that's what's causing confusion?

This is all explained in the rules; however, the ordering of the rules takes a bit of getting used to.
