Work VPN same IP, can't play

Post by MPH10 »

I tried to start a game with my work collaegues.
They had the problem that BGA thought we were all on the same IP address.
I assumed this was because we all have to use VPN for working from home.

We all disconnected from the VPN and reloaded BGA, but my collaegues still faced the same problem.

Do we need to do something in particular to make sure BGA registers us as on seperate IP addresses?

Do you know if your VPN allows for split tunneling? Split tunnels basically tunnels all of your work domain traffic through the VPN and leaves non-work related domain traffic off the tunnel so that it will use your IP assigned by you ISP. Typically VPNs are configured by company admins for split tunneling because the company doesn’t want all the non-work related crap to use their resources as well. I would check with your company’s IT team about the availability of split tunneling.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split_tunneling

For example, suppose a user utilizes a remote access VPN software client connecting to a corporate network using a hotel wireless network. The user with split tunneling enabled is able to connect to file servers, database servers, mail servers and other servers on the corporate network through the VPN connection. When the user connects to Internet resources (Web sites, FTP sites, etc.), the connection request goes directly out the gateway provided by the hotel network.
