Idea for Hanabi in arena mode

Post by Lou06Lou »

There is a way to have Hanabi in arena mode :
In Arena mode Hanabi would be played in the highest difficulty, with 2 players, 5 or 6 cards
When choosing arena, actually 4 players will be needed, it will be a team of 2 versus a team of 2. Both team will play the same deck, the team with the highest point at the end wins.
What do you think ?

But the game mechanics isn't fit for that.
You can dream of it, but it will never happen, that cause too much problems.

@romain - I think Lou suggested something else than you posted, Romain.
Not the 4p game with two players against the other two, but the tournament-like system where 2vs2 are not in the same table - there are two competing tables.
In case anyone curious, here is a short post discussion after the game Romain linked: https://imgur.com/dKkJ4WC

@Lou - There are sometimes challenges between different groups* to play the same deck and compare scores, and it brings some questions. How to count the same score? Should bombs and/or number of tokens left be considered as tiebreakers (ah, but they are resources to use, style-specific - the game doesn't count them to the points, so adding them as tiebreakers adds meta-layer to the game)? And if they don't help, what then - AFAIK Arena needs a winner, isn't it?
In general it would be hard to find fully fair system for a cooperative game - and also probably hard to implement the new system for one game only.

*Regular challenges could be found in WildCards group, for example, or Competitive Hanabi. There were also less regular challenges in 2b or not 2b group. In all cases there were not only 2p challenges (but always a specific number of players' tables comparing each other).

Ok, this idea seems to fit more in certain type of tournaments. Where each player could play like 10 or 20 differents decks. But one each.

@Ankeszu yes you understood me, I feel like we can find a good solution for tie breaks, also 2 players Hanabi in hardest mode with only 5 cards is a bit hard, if we count rockets, and cards left at the end, I think we will not have so much tie breaks

Regarding ties: in koi-koi, it is possible to Exit the game with the same score, having a tie.

You would have to disable chat option to prevent cheating. Also platform friends dialogue as well. That is the tricky part, not the tiebreaker.
