About the "Sabotage" Conspiracy

Post by Eirae »

Hi Guys,
1st of all, thank you so much for bringing the 7 wonder duel game to BGA. And an expansion so soon after, that is incredible :)
I tested a few games with the expansion and love it so much , my head will explode :)

I have 1 card I am not sure I understand properly :
It is the conspiracy card called "Sabotage"
Description effect is :
Choose 1 Wonder constructed by your opponent and return it to the box. It will no longer be used for this game and the effects of this Wonder are lost.

If the wonder is to give victory points, they are cancelled
If the wonder is granting extra materials, not anymore (eg Great Lighthouse)
If the wonder did grant money -> is that money to be taken back to the bank? (ex The temple of Artemis) I believe answer is no here.
If the wonder did grant 1 or 2 Shield, should the pawn be moved back? This is the one I am really wondering about, because there is a clarification in the rule about the Shield symbol in the Decrees that says "Clarification: When you lose control of this Decree, you lose this shield and move the Conflict pawn one space towards your capital" so I would assume the same would apply if you lose a constructed wonder that shows 1 or 2 Shield.

Any ideas ?

The French rule says that the effects of the Wonder are lost, but there is certainly no question of going back in time.
Therefore, the lost effects are the future permanent effects, not the immediate or permanent effects that the owner of the Wonder may have previously used.
Shields on Wonders and red cards have a permanent effect, unlike shields obtained with the Progress Strategy token. So, the loss of a Marvel or a red card sets back the Conflict pawn according to the number of shields present on the construction.

I asked the publisher this question during development and the answer was:
"It is the same rule as Anubis in Panthéon: The affected player doesn’t lose the instant effects previously granted by that Wonder (shields, coins, progress tokens, constructed or discarded card, replay effect)."

So the only effects your really lose are Victory Points and Resource choices and the secondary benefits you might have of having a Wonder constructed.

Panthéon is not actually implemented on BGA, so I considered only the Agora rule and the Decree with a shield, which works as a permanent effect, in contradiction with the clarifications concerning Anubis in Panthéon (which stipulate that shields are instant effects).

The Decree with shield has a temporary effect (as long as you control it), and is the only way to lose position on the track without your opponent constructing something.
