[Noob] How can I "fork" a game

Post by Goto Tog »

Hello,
I'm a new developper here.

I finished the first tutorial reversi. I will do the other 2 soon.
But now i would like to help to fix bugs before creating a game, in order to understand deeper the framework and keep motivated.

How do we "fork" projects?

For example I want to help resolving a problem on "Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization".
I clicked on [Get readonly access] But i received a blank project with just the basic skeletton.
Should i contact directly the administrator of the project?
Is this a bug to receive a blank project after asking read only access?

Thanks for your time,
Regards,
Goto

You can just start a new project and clone an existing one.

Thanks, but I can't find how to clone. How can I clone the project?
I can't find the original files to copy them in my new project.
I know I sound dumb

Hmm...I see your point.

I swear under Control Panel, Manage Games, at the bottom you can start a new project and I thought you were able to put the name of an existing project, but that is not there anymore :O.

From the 'Studio Projects' you can get read only access to any project and then SFTP it.

Which project did you try?
Maybe this project has nothing it apart from the default skeleton.

I just tried a project called amerigo and it worked.

Hello,

Cloning is now available _after_ creating a project from the manage game page (Overwrite ... with ... in the "source code version control" block)

Ok, still nothing only the common project skeleton.

How is it possible the original project is blank if the game exists and there is a bug report on it?

I'm a bit confused.

Thanks you guys for your time

I don't understand, there is no "Get readonly access" on this game (the developer has chosen to disable it).
So I'm not sure what linked you clicked, but indeed, this game source code is not freely available to fork.
