Hey,
It took me some time to figure out how to play the new version. Many problems with the new interface have already been mentioned and in general I agree with many previous posters on that. No need to repeat them again. In short: the new interface did not improve the game experience.
About clues
I just want to add one thing about giving hints/clues because it was argued that the new way is more intuitiv. On the contrary. When playing offline/in real person, I also say "I will now show you all your *blue* cards" and then point at them. This way it is also easier to give 'negative' clues in "You do not have any *blue* cards". I use these clues very often and they are just as important for the strategic of the game! Please find a way to change that - where I think the old interface was reallly much much better
Why now?
I joined BGA because of this game, especially during the lockdowns it was a great way to stay connected with people and not get complety crazy being alone at home. It is an unfortunat time point to introduce the new interface now that many states are going back into lockdowns and people (at least my friend and I) were hoping to overcome this time with some Hanabi. However, the game experience has declined with this new interface and I wonder if I will continue playing.
I wonder if it would be possible to offer the players the choice of interface? I think this would take a lot of the anger away - especially given the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic and lockdowns.
Black Powder
On a positive note: I do enjoy this black Powder options. This gives the game a whole new dimensions and a new strategic element.
Conclusion
Overall I like the idea of developing the game and giving more options However, the version is really horrible and the new way to give hints/clues made the game worse.
