Re: Hanabi: grand feux (new edition)

Post by das_biest »

Hi, I‘ve played Hanabi more than 3700 times on BGA and I am paying for premium account. So I hope my voice gets heard.

Please revert to previous version as long as common hardware/software settings are not yet playable (mobile vertical, non-edge browser ...)

Please give us back the old clueing mechanism or at least make the new one more visual again. With colors/ symbols and the possibility to quickly grasp all options in MC mode.

And please dig for the real needs of all these ‚ugly/ unplayable‘ comments: I agree that most of us do not easily adapt to changes but I can also see in current new edition that hanabi fans like me lost some of the fun of previous version. There might be a way in the middle to fulfill all the needs?

Thank you

La nouvelle version est injouable sur tablette , trop petit pas intuitif et mal conçu . Hâte que vous trouviez un compromis . Merci BGA

I agree that with any change, the immediate reaction is usually negative, and people get used to it.

That is not the case here.

I will not mention the new "around a table" layout much. That is simply unplayable. The feedback below is related to the "stacked" layout, which in my opinion was severely downgraded, but is still usable.
There are also dozens of comments explaining that the new stacked mode is not playable on mobile, so I won't go into that more, except to say that I agree. I cannot play on mobile now.

The new card numbers & design are really awkward and harder to read than before. Can you make them less tall, with a consistent font and design? (Ideally they go back to how they were, but I don't expect you will throw away all your work, even if the community begs for that).

The new clue format is fine, but certainly not as good as the previous format. Reading text is a red flag in most UX design. Please allow the option to revert to the old clue format, I feel most of us would prefer that.

The discard pile is sorted by number, and not by when the card was discarded. I expect this is a bug, but if it is a design choice, I urge you to reconsider.

Even on my computer, there is so much vertical wasted space that I need to scroll down to see my own cards. I'm playing on a regular macbook pro, and no matter how I resize the browser, I can't find a comfortable window size. Please, take a close look at this. There should not be difficulty fitting information into a reasonable screen size. If you need inspiration to achieve this result, look no further than the old design, it was very good.

First post ever on the forum. I want to add my support to those calling for the restoration of the old interface.

The redesign is really awful and badly thought out. Even on a 24" monitor I need to scroll down to see my cards, while there's acres of wasted space higher up. It looks like it's been designed by someone who doesn't play the game.

The old interface seemed perfect to me. I don't think I'll carry on playing with the new design as it's just not enjoyable.

No, it doesn’t. It looks like the idea of someone who has primarily played Hanabi physically around an actual table. As such it’s a pretty intuitive interface (bugs not withstanding) for those transitioning from face-to-face play.

“These 3 cards are green” is also exactly what most players would be saying around a physical table.

We should remember that the advanced players who are pulling off 30s fairly consistently in games completing in under 12 minutes are not BGA’s only audience. These may not even be BGA’s primary audience. It would be nice to have options that cater to these players, but we should bear in mind that UI needs to take into account BGA’s other intended audiences as well.

I'll not repeat what most unsatisfied players have already written. Let me just add that I've been using this lovely site for a few years and have always considered its developers to be... well, not quite up to task. Now I may confirm, they indeed are doing a horrible job.

Premium member who hopes to stay such.

I was trying to play card and discarded it by mistake (twice). I also had to scroll over and over to see my and opponent's cards (so far it was problem only in saboteur...).

I really apreciate the effort you went in to remake Hanabi. It is one of my favorite to play on this site. However I believe the older version offered a far better player experience. Please change it back! hahaha
Or maybe you can take a middle route and keep the old layout but update the graphics.

Decided to cancel my premium membership. Hanabi was main game I played here and can't support this downgrade
