Alhambra - 'My Alhambra' surrounding tile colour

Post by WarlordBatz »

It seems bizarre that in the Beta of Alhambra your own Alhambra is surrounded by yellow 'tiles' that are not actually tiles. Why?

These 'non-tiles' don't mean anything really (other than showing where you could potentially place a tile - but even then they don't help because impossible placement positions (like outside walls) show up yellow).

So my proposal is that in your own Alhambra the display should not shown extra yellow 'tiles' where there are not placed tiles. Instead your own Alhambra should show just like how the other player's Alhambra show up i.e. without the surrounding yellow 'non-tiles'.

Yeah, they serve no purpose as they also appear in places where it's illegal to play a tile. They are off putting as well, they look similar to tiles without walls so you have to pretend they're not there when it would be a lot better if they weren't there at all.

Agreed! I find this very confusing. A different colour (or none) would be better.

I also agree the extra yellow blank tiles are very off-putting and confusing

Agreed that the phantom empty tiles are very confusing - I would rather they weren't there, or failing that were at least another color. And yes, since they also indicate places that are technically illegal to place, they are even more confusing

+1 Very confusing when teaching the game to new players. These empty sand squares should be removed.

I just wanted to echo the opinion that has already been stated here. A friend of mine has discovered this game through BGA and really fallen for it. :) She's been teaching a numbers of other newbies including her parents. She is very comfortable explaining new games to people, and is very experienced at doing so. She's mentioned that a repeating problem has been the same colour being used in the 'My Alhambra' area as the building tiles. The use of the same colour for both has lead to a lot of confusion with new players. Since a lot of us are teaching players remotely (over the phone, over Discord, or the voice chat of your choosing) being able to draw a new players attention to a certain element by colour is very useful. I know that there is the very useful cursor option for pointing out things, but I do think it would be helpful to have a differentiating colour used. :)

Thanks again for a fantastic game adaptation. :)
