Time zone?

I'm not sure how to tell when a turn based game says x number of moves between 8 am and 8 pm, due example, which time zone it is. I've had some issues like being told I'm overdue. For instance, last night I went to bed late and played all my pending turns at 1.15 am ish EST. This morning, around 10 am, I got penalised for being overdue by 11 hours and I'm not even sure how that's possible. This wasn't the first time and I'm just trying to figure out what's happening so this doesn't happen again.

First, this belongs in the BGA discussion forum, not the non-BGA topics discussion forum.

But, any reported times are based on local time. Or at least whatever your computer thinks is local time. (If you live in New York, and have your computer set to Moscow time zone, it will list Moscow local time.)

A game set to fast turn based, 12 moves between 8am and 8pm will mean that at 8:00 pm local time, your clock will stop (if it had been running). If you make moves after this, your added time (2 hours, I think for 12 moves/day) will be added to your clock. At 8:00 am, the clock will restart. So, if you don't make a move until 2:00 pm, you will have spent 6 hours of time and most likely incurred a penalty.

I don't play turn based, but is there a way to restrict table settings to certain time zones for that, or at least advise to someone what the time zone of the host of the game is, and that defines the 8am to 8pm for everybody? That would seem to be something in line with what the OP may be referring to

This is the reason that times displayed are in local time. So if I create a game from 8A to 8P in my local time zone, it will show up as 9P-9A for someone almost halfway around the world. Stating the timezone of the table creator would only lead to wanting restrictions by time zone, which has been proposed several times before and denied because showing playing hours accomplishes the same task in a better way. Restricting by time zone would eliminate those people who work a non-standard schedule from participating.
