Something Went Wrong - Not My Fault!

Post by Roger Rompot »

I have been working hard to get my rating up in playing Hearts. I just set up a game and went to it and there was an error. I did not select Quit Game and I tried to refresh several times. I eventually declared the loser and lost the game and got penalized thirty some points and my perfect reputation took a hit. I am a paying member and I would like my reputation and my 298 rating in Hearts restored!

Hello,
Sorry about this issue. You should actually never be redirected to an URL starting with "en.8.boardgamearena.com" it should always start with "boardgamearena.com".
We would need some help to understand how this happens. Do you remember how you landed on this URL? Did it happen by clicking a browser notification? By being redirected after accepting a game? Something else?
Thanks in advance for any info you can give us.

NB: if it happens to you again, getting back to BGA and following the link to your current game should give you correct access.

I have lost 66 points and my reputation has gone from Perfect to Average. Can you give me my points and reputation back. I would appreciate it. I have a lot of fun playing Hearts, but this has taken the fun away.

As far as helping you undertsand the error: I open to play a game, 3 others come on to play. I select Accept and it goes to that error message. All I know how to do is press the F5 button to try to refresh. I never selet leave the game. Then the Start Game button comes up and I select it and then I lose my rating and reputation. I do not understand what I am suppose to do. Please give me detailed steps and please return my rank and reputation.

Thanks you for helping,

Roger

Thank you for the extra information. I have cancelled your penalties.
I have not been able to reproduce the issue, but we have adjusted a configuration, hopefully this is fixed. Please let us know if it happens again.

Thanks for returning my reputation, but why can't you also return the 66 points that was taken from me in these two errors? I am now afraid to start a game of Hearts.

Also, if your not sure about how to recreate it, do you have any ideas for me as to what to do if it occurs again?

Thank you,

Roger

Actually your ranking points impact not only yourself but also every people playing with you (it's a chain) so we don't "fix" points after the fact as it would introduce inconsistencies. Sorry about that (note that in the games that you lost after that, you lost less points that you would have with a higher ranking, so it somehow compensates, not perfectly, but a little).

Using the back button for your browser, you should be able to get back to the site, and there should be a "go to game" button available.

It could also help us figure out the issue if you would let us know the exact version that is displayed for BGA at the bottom of the page (something like
Board Game Arena Release 201107-1937-PA).

Een,

I did use the Go To Game Button and what your saying did not help.

How is it fair to me to lose 66 points and how does giving my points back hurt any other player? At least, at a minimum, why not give some of my points back?

Thanks, that's important information.

We don't have the tools to change the chains and recompute everything. Some things are pretty complex. Unfortunately bugs and issues happen, and it's not possible to fix everything. Sorry about that.
