Tournament module 2020 UPDATES: Swiss system v2

Post by sourisdudesert »

Hi,

From last month, we started to improve the tournament module for BGA.

This forum post is the first of a serie of posts that will introduce the new stuff :)

The first thing we want to introduce is... Swiss System v2 (BETA version).

What is new?
  • New display for matches & results.
  • Support for 3+ players tables.
This is still a work in progress - and for now it's not accessible to everyone. The first BETA test session of this new tournament mode will be a 7 Wonders tournament today:
https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=65568

There will be other test sessions: if you want to participate and play this new module before everyone else, please subscribe to this forum thread.

Thanks for your feedback!

UPDATE November 26th: you can now CREATE YOUR OWN Swiss system v2 tournaments.

This is the next phase of the deployment of the new Swiss System :)

Enjoy!

Hi!

Great job, the tournament tab looks gorgeous.

About the fixes:
The "opponents average" stat seems broken.
How many players per game is not mentionned in the tournament options (only in the title or description)
The link to see a game from the tab is too small and not easy to find (maybe extend the link to the entire line ? (number + Finished/To be played)
Is there a way to customize how many points you get for each position? Can it be displayed in the tournament options?
The Skipped section isn't highlighted when you are skipped, the way Finished is when you are in the game.
At a table, in the tournament tab, the cross icon to extend the players section isn't working. (it works fine in the tournament page)
There is a weird point interaction when 2 people don't show up, and the game is abandonned
Having the maximum points when skipped seems kinda not balanced

But overall, i think the tournament ran smoothly. Well done :)

Ez0ah has already summed up most of the comments I could made about the tournament.
I think the main problem occurred at Table 2, Step 1, where 2 players didn't show up. Alehive and Raphman should have won at least +5 points for shared 1st place. Because of their opponents not showing up, they almost had no chance of winning the tournament.

Also, on Step 1, I think some tables were played with only 3 players because 1 player didn't show up. It could maybe be an option for the "skipped" players to play 3-players games instead of just being skipped ?

Overall the tournament still ran smoothly and the interface looks nice, good job ! :)

WOAH! looks cool..

While you're there, could you add 'Arena mode' for these multiplayer tournaments too. ;)
Just a checkbox to say all these game will also count towards Arena Stars/ELO.

At last! WE waited for years!!!

Is there a chance that you will allow to create this "non-duel kind tourney" at least to premium users at this beta-stage?
This will provide you much more feedback.

Tournament creation is a Premium feature anyway. But don't worry: if the first test sessions are okay, it won't take so long before it will be open to everyone.

This is a great feature. I would say it would be nice to play not full tables and to tourney organizers to provide custom point values to different places on the tables, but base features are awesome enough for a start.

To explain what I mean. This was a 4 person tourney with 6;4;2;0 points to respective places. I would like to be able to customize:
6;5;3;1 for example and 5;3;2 for the not full table. This is small, but can be something you can explore.

Hi!
Great Job!

I would like to implement the Swiss System to 6nimmt! games
I am managing the 5TacPro Saturday League.
But it would be very nice to try out new tournament modes like this one.

Very interested in:
- customize victory points, as already suggested
- define own tiers / stats different from those listed
- possibility of halting/adjourn a tournament and proceed on another day/date/time?
- do we have an Open mode, people can join after each round ends?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Is there any kind of schedule when this will be tested further. We did Bubblee Pop tournament the other night which seemed to go well, but it was 2 players only so didn't get a sense of how the multiplayer tournaments would run.
