karma penalties

Post by CharlieReddog »

The karma penalties are ridiculous. I am not talking about abandoning, or late play, I'm talking about the impact of red thumbs. Once you've been impacted, it's almost impossible to recover, you just get hit again and again. Way too many players on this platform are utter snowflakes and can't take a bit of banter, god knows what would have happened if there had been any real competitive play sledging going on. You might as well remove the chat function from the site, since it's normally used for a meaningless "gg" or completely ignored. That way no one can be insulted, or complain if I voice my opinions on the sites obvious bias towards players who pay vs those who don't, and the utter lack of randomness in tile generation.

Both of these claims have been discussed several times before. The random feature primarily comes up in dice rolling games, but it does apply to any game where randomness is involved. You do not state how the site is allegedly biased, so I will assume that it is related to the random generator as well.

These claims are very easy to prove, as all played games can be replayed by anyone with an account, whether they were a player at the table or not. To date, not one of the claimants has been able to provide verifiable statistical data to support the claim. Please don't attack the site without such evidence.

Additionally, your comments about the general population are aggressive and insulting. Please don't attack the community. This is probably a cause of your red thumb ratio.

One thing I wish was more widely known is that if you have less than 50% karma, you are unable to use the chat.

As I primarily play cooperative games (Hanabi and Room 25), I found many people got annoyed with me because they would ask, for example, "is everyone familiar with finesse/bluff/reverse?" and I couldn't respond so I'm quite sure I received a few red thumbs for not answering our team gameplay questions.

Luckily, I am now over 50% karma so it is no longer an issue, but I think there should be something to indicate to other players that a person is unable to use the chat (where it gives the warning that "this player has a bad reputation"). Most players are unaware of this restriction. I certainly wasn't aware until I was knocked down to 0% karma.

Hi

I totally agree with you regarding these RED THUMBS. They are given out left, right and centre, for some rediculous reasons. In my opinion a RED THUMB should only be used to BLOCK someone you do not wish to have any further contact with.

You are spot on regarding competive play. I received a lot of verbal abuse yesterday and today just because I was doing pretty well in a particular game.

You can’t use messaging either, if you don’t have at least 31% karma.

I have a great deal of difficulty understanding these restrictions on communication with other members. Because, quite often, other members ask you questions, by the chat of a game, or by the messaging, and you cannot answer them, unless you know them privately.

No one can use the chat due to being premium.

If you have low karma, often when you go to start a game, others will cancel when they see your karma score because they think you will quit or be slow. They then will red thumb you to avoid playing with you. This creates a vicious circle for your karma. I once received two different warnings for the same game when I insulted a guy because he was being racist. Someone else reported that person and me. I received a simple warning and told don't insult even if baited. I also reported the original person but it came back that he was already penalized for his actions. In retaliation for reporting him, he reported me a day later and a new mod hit me hard with 50% karma penalty and no chat for a week. I tried appealing asking why I was getting punished for two reports on the same game. The mod refused to budge and gave me a 4 word reply. So I sucked it up. To avoid the vicious circle of low karma, I only played Can't Stop after my chat ban for a week to repair my Karma. That game is short enough that people will take a chance on someone with low karma and not cancel the game and red thumb them.

Only public red thumbs affect your karma. Public red thumbs can only be given after you have played with or received messages from them recently.
