Hello
I have a problem with this new swiss2. I have created a tournament with 4p games but only 3 players registered.
The problem is that the tournament has started but with no games since 3 players was less than the minimum of 4.
Why the system did not cancel it before starting ?

I think the new system is perfect and obviously bugs should be the priority, but I wanted to raise what I think might be a better way of matching. If players are ranked 1 to 9 after the first round the system currently tries to match them:

1-2-3
4-5-6
7-8-9

Which is somewhat analogous to a 2 player Swiss but a Swiss is just a concealed Knock Out, and a KO with 9 players would be over in 2 rounds, so because the number of rounds we are playing is usually over the number needed to distinguish a winner dropping a place in the first round inflates your score in later rounds. I would suggest that it might be better to treat most rounds as seeding and match:

1-6-9
2-5-8
3-4-7

Obviously while avoiding players engaging each other more than once. This rewards, rather than punishes, players for doing well in early rounds (especially if you pre-seed by Elo). Then in the final round you could force

1-2-3
4-5-6
7-8-9

Regardless of whether players have met before or not. Which means you would get a final, and likely decisive game, between the very best players.

Obviously not a priority, but perhaps something to be mulled over as you see the results from actual tournaments coming in.

This is normally fixed in the next release (tournament will have minimum total players being the minimum numbers of player per game).

Until the release, this tournament will have to be cancelled "by hand", I'll notify the admins.

I was in a 7 Wonders Tournament with 7 players across multiple Time Zones. Needless to say, not everyone could play at once, and all of us were reaching negative time within a few days. I was as active as I could possibly be during my online hours. But then someone ejected me from the game, penalizing me. Even though I was as active as I could have been for my time zone. I think for multiplayer games you'll need to rethink time limits when people are all over the world. Rather annoying to be penalized like this, even though I was doing my best to play whenever I was allowed to make a move.

New release !
  • Options have been added to swiss system v2 (pairing, points attribution)
  • The tournament page has been visually reworked, displaying all the tournament informations (number of matches, options)
  • Private tournaments have been overhauled. Now, if you create a private tournament :
    • you can invite players (by username), as usual
    • you can give a "tournament link", which automatically invite players without knowing their username
    • you can open the tournament to a specific group, or to your friends, who will then be able to register as if they were invited.

Very nice.

Thanks Draasill

Some remark:
Number of players in a match and Number of players in a match (minimum) should be only in the part "OPTIONS FOR : SWISS SYSTEM (V2)"
not in the "TOURNAMENT MATCH CONFIGURATION"
"Number of players in a match" is always visible with the other type of tournament, I think it is a bug (by the way, there are np restriction on this field)

I really don't understand the option "Points attribution based on results" ?
Would be better to let the player choose for each place (from 1st to 6th) and off course that must go in descendant

First of all, thanks Draasill for your work on the multiplayer game tournaments, it's been a long wait for someone to start develop it, I'm glad it's finally happening, for me, in this great period for bga, with all these new releases, this is the most important one. Again, thanks for the amazing effort, the swiss system already looks great, I'm pretty sure the same will happen with the elimination one.

There are a few suggestions/requests I would like to make:

1. as flolem said, maybe the tournament managers could have the option of customizing the point distribution by themselves? I personally am more inclined of rewarding the winners of a game (we've been playing 6nimmt! unofficial leagues for a while now, our system is 6/4/3/2/1), but i'm sure there are so many other possibilities, depending on the games, number of players in a game, etc.

2. is it possible to introduce a maximum number of players in a game as well? I'll give you 6nimmt! as an example again. If the manager set 5 player games with a minimum of 4, and got 16 registered players, basically the tournament would go with 4 player games all the way. Having the option of a maximum 6, there would be 3 tables of 5 and a table of 6. And, at least for 6nimmt! (tactics/professional) the number of players in a game is quite important. I mean 5 players is the way. But I'd prefer to play, not to be skipped, so could compromise to 4 or 6 (6 is actually way worse for me, but again, there would be less tables that didn't match the main setting).

3. it would be nice if there was an alarm sound for the start of a next round in the live tournaments. You can imagine that some players who finished their games earlier, might be browsing different websites while waiting. Or at least that moving comma that appears when is your turn in the turn-based games, i think it would be noticed quite easily.

For number players maybe a better way is first choice and 2nd choice (and 3rd choice, but wouldn’t often be needed) This lets the organizer decide whether an extra player or 1 less player us better. Right now if you want 4 player but would rather 5 over 3 there is no mechanism to do that.
