"War Hero" also has violent connotations.

The context isn't even that you are a great "assassin" but that you assassinated an expert/a master.
Haven't seen this one yet, but good god, who comes up with these and thinks they are appropriate?

Hi,
I agree with your point.
I made the official request to the BGA Team : changing "Killing spree" to "Winning streak".
They should be rely soon (usually it takes less than a working day).

For those who don't know, you can suggest changes for original English strings (for example achievement names, BGA warning messages, section labels...) using the BGA translation system and translating English to English.
This can be a bit odd but this is the way the community can participate. Of course you need to justify your proposal for change. If ultimately accepted, you will receive a mail and the string will be modified also for all translators who can then apply the change in their native languages.
However, there may be an experience in translation requirement in order to use such a feature.

For those who are interested, that module is here: https://boardgamearena.com/translation? ... cale=en_US

I'll keep you inform.
Cheers,

Woodruff
Ah interesting, I didn't knew about that. Thanks for sharing!

Hi,
The change I requested has been accepted :)
The trophee name will be updated tomorrow: Winning streak.
Your change request regarding an original English text has been taken into account.

The updated text will be visible on the website under 24 hours, after the next daily translation update.

Direct link to this translation:

If you want to ask for change on other questionnable achievement labels, you now know the trick ;)

Cheers,

Woodruff

I don't think the others are that bad.

Banzai might be highly objectable in 1945 but in 2020?

Actually, the change request system is not supposed to be used like this. It is only for small changes and corrections that don't change the overall meaning or structure of the text. The problem is that this has now been changed silently, making all translations incorrect without translators being aware of it.

Big changes like this should normally go through a suggestion report (though main site changes like this would probably get snowed under by other reports, so it's understandable).

With that said, the name was indeed a bad choice for a board gaming site, so it's a welcome change.

I nominate "DiMaggio's Doorstep" for #50.

Not quite true.
I checked, and the new string is now proposed as a new one to the translators.
So it is not silent and the translator community being that active, the matching translation can be proposed quickly.
For languages which have not that many translators, the English version of the new string will be displayed in the meantime, not the old translated one.

It is the standard behaviour, and this was initially also the case for this string (I changed it in Dutch). So I'm assuming the admins have cleared it now, making it seem like a new one (but with history intact).

My point stands, though:

I wonder if that is meant to apply to the main site though. There is no "developer". Arguably we're not changing the meaning either.

But the powers-that-be have waved it through so it's all good.

I do agree that if people want to suggest alternatives to "assassin" and "war hero" etc though we should probably have a discussion and turn it into a suggestion though. I wouldn't have picked those labels but don't have a strong opinion on them.
