Mapmaker: The Gerrymandering Game available in alpha

Post by gkz »

Mapmaker: The Gerrymandering Game is available in alpha.

This is a game where you place district borders and compete to gerrymander the map to your advantage.
All players start out with the same number of votes -- the winner is the one who can gerrymander the most effectively!

Game totally works from what I can tell. Only wish is that it had an undo button.

This game is terrific. Such a simple concept, yet so much strategy! As far as I can tell, the release on BGA works perfectly in all but one small aspect; it does not respect the colour choices of Premium users. As a result, the first couple of game I was green (the colour I usually play), but then when we played our third game, I was yellow without realizing it. I thought I was doing really well, little did I know that 2 of us both thought we were green! Since then, I have never been green nor have my other friends had their preferred colour respected. Other than that, great game!!

If this is the table you are referring to, you can see at the very beginning of the replay that every player had a color preference (which is pretty rare). When multiple players express conflicting preferences, the framework does the best it can to give everybody their first choice, but it's not always possible.

Yes!! That is precisely the table I was referring to! Wow, that's cool, you can pull that up from the history. OK, I understand. So if the colour of our preference is not offered by the original game, then the framework does its best to match the chosen colours to the available colours. Makes sense. I can clearly see that the colour preference was taken into account in the gamelog, so I guess Fromir's preference was not available which made it a toss up between his colour and mine (green).

Thanks for the reply. I thought this game just neglected to take the preferred colours into account because I am always green, but I can see how that might be a problem if, for instance, green isn't an available colour. Then I might end up with someone else's preferred colour. Well, at least now I know to check my colour each game and not make assumptions. Tks!
