Arena - Guaranteed point with win

I just started playing in Arena mode today, and discovered something that's rather discouraging.
I've been stuck on Diamond level on Lucky Numbers for quite a few matches, and wanted to see if I could finish the day at Elite level.
I kept playing, and ended up facing the same opponent twice in a row.
After the first victory (a sweep of both rounds), I did not get any points toward the next level,
After the second victory (another sweep), I still did not get any points toward the next level.
I'm guessing that this is due to the opponent being a lower level.
I know you shouldn't get as many points for defeating a lower level opponent as a higher one, but what is the purpose in playing a competitive mode when there is absolutely nothing to gain?
Each time I faced this opponent, BGA had matched me up with them in just a few seconds.
I believe players should be able to be matched with opponents that are at a level where they stand to gain at least one point for winning against them, and only if there are no other players available after a set amount of time should you be matched up with anyone lower than that.
Is this something that is possible?

Isn't there an option for filtering opponent level? I've never used it yet though.

It appears that there is an opponent level setting in the advanced settings, but that still doesn't eliminate the problem of there being times where there is absolutely nothing to gain by playing. A competitive mode should always have something to gain by playing.

You actually gain points even if you don't see them. Once in Elite, you are ranked by the Arena ELO and this works exactly as normal ELO system so you earn points even if winning against less skilled opponents during the climbing. It's just not showing up until you reach Elite.

It looks like Arena Mode matches you with the next available Player which often is the one which you just played because it's the one who just finished a game and wants a new one. To avoid this,and get a chance to compete with a Player near your rank it helps to wait for some time before starting your next game.

Yes, it does exactly eliminate there being times where there is nothing to gain. If you win against a player at most 2 leagues below you, you will get at least one Arena point.

I agree: I have played several 1 vs 1 games (7 Wonders Duel, Lucky Numbers, Can't stop) and sometimes a win doesn't give you any Stars. It would be great if we could receive at least 1 star after a 1 vs 1 victory.

AIn addition to that, I recently finish 2nd at Rallyman with 4 players and the third one was more than 400 Elo (200 for me): no star for me !! I was very disapointed

Yes, it does exactly eliminate there being times where there is nothing to gain. If you win against a player at most 2 leagues below you, you will get at least one Arena point.

What I meant is that having to dig into the advanced settings to find that setting should not be necessary, and it does not do anything for those that don't know how to do that, and end up in a possibly endless loop where they don't get any points due to facing the same opponent repeatedly.

Imagine winning a first round match in a tournament, and finding out you didn't advance to the second round and that you have to play yet another first round match because the opponent you were forced to play wasn't at the appropriate level. Then you find out that your next match is somehow against the same opponent, and that even winning the second match will result in yet another first round game after that. That's how this felt.

it's exacly the same that happened to me in connect four (having none stop a gold league person while i'm in bronze and set to only my level (refuse 1+ level))
