How much should be shared with friends

No restriction - everything I say or touch should be broadcast to all friends on their newsfeeds
2
6%
Anything I say or touch should be visible if someone visits my 'recent activity', but not broadcast
3
9%
Comments I add to a discussion (such as in a private group) should not cause the discussion to be visible to friends (except when they are also in the group, for example).

Does BGA over-share with friends ?

Post by drdrd »

Apologies if this has been discussed before... I don't have expectations of full privacy here, but I'm starting to feel that BGA is too eager to share activity with friends. The problem might be that I have several unconnected groups of friends : family forms one set; our local gaming group forms another set; etc. There's no particular reason why discussions with one set should be pushed to the feeds of a different set.

A recent example is that if A posts a notice to a private group, and B adds a comment, all of B's friends can see the entire discussion. and even add comments (which then make the original post visible to all their friends.) And it's not the users that B has flagged as friends, it's all the users that have flagged B as their friend - no requirement for it to be reciprocal. So B cannot even have any say over who the discussion is leaked to.

Similarly, if user A adds a note to user B's notification area, any friends of A see it in their newsfeed. I suppose it's reasonable that other users should be able to see the note if they explicitly visit B's recent activity, but it seems unnecessary to push it out to all friends automatically.

(My first attempt at a poll...)

I think the best approach should be that every gets to choose what they want to share with friends and with the rest of the world. Right now profiles are fully open to everybody and there's no privacy options. It would be a great improvement to add privacy options to your profile.

I agree. I’m hesitant to add friends because my newsfeed gets spammed with every tournament they join and there’s a pop up every Time they come online briefly. If I could turn those off, I’d be a lot friendlier.
