Wizard is now in Alpha

Post by MGoulet »

The trick-taking game Wizard uses a sixty-card deck that consists of the traditional 52-card deck (1-13 in four suits) along with four Wizards (high) and four Jesters (low).

After all tricks have been played, players tally their score for the round. If a player matched their bid, winning exactly as many tricks as stated at the start of the round, they score 20 points, plus 10 points for each trick taken. If a player missed their bid, they lose 10 points for each trick that they were off, whether they took more or fewer than predicted.

** For now, it's only the Amigo Artwork that is used. I'll check if I can use the "American" artwork for Wizards and Jesters.

I was just talking about this game to my friends earlier this month after playing other bidding + trick-taking games on BGA with them like Whist 22 and Oh Hell. I've owned and played a physical copy for years. Thanks for adding it to BGA! Would love to help review once I can.

I haven't gotten to try it here yet, but I looked at the table settings and I would love to have one or more options for a shorter game. My husband and I have owned a copy (US Games Systems edition) for years, and we typically play ten hands no matter what player count we have.

yeah, ten hands is the "tournament setting" used by amigo, too. So there shouldn't be a problem by the publisher if that is implemented on here

Let me answer as publisher on that variant. ;-)

Yes, we have the tournament rules for 3, 4 and 5 players with exactly 10 rounds per game:

5 players - number of cards during 10 rounds: 2-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12
4 players - number of cards during 10 rounds: 1-3-5-7-9-11-12-13-14-15
3 players - number of cards during 10 rounds: 2-4-6-8-10-12-14-16-18-20

For 6 players there is no setting because this number of players would be splitted into two groups of 3 players.

Best regards
