Odd elo results

Post by Mr_Magic »

Hi there,

I just finished a 12 player game and came third. The elo adjustment page shows me as losing Elo against 5 players, marking each as a defeat. I was only defeated by two other players.

Can this please be explained?it was this game

haha, nice catch. It looks like for the Elo scoring the results aren't put in numerical order but in alphabetical order.

So, as a third place, you lost against 1,2,10,11,12, as they all are before 3 alphabetically. [in the same vein, 10 won against 11,12,2,3,...,9]

I'd guess that isn't as it should be and so should be reported as a bug. I have no idea though if that is a bug related to the game or to the whole of bga

it gets even worse:

the break down of Elo change for places 10,11,12 show that same behaviour ("won" against 2,3,...) and it also shows how the Elo should've changed with that.

But as opposed to the Elo loss for 2nd, 3rd, etc place that the system still keeps in place, here we have different behaviour: The Elo gain is nullified.
Looks like someone saw the bug and instead of fixing it completely they made some manual adjustments to Elo scoring.
Thus obfuscating the real bug

Sure, but I think you should fill a BGA bug, this does not look specific to the game.
