joining tables automatically

Post by kayak4ever »

I am confused about the website logic for joining games. If I want to play a game for 2 to 10 players and I press Play now, the system looks for some number of other players. When it finds them, I get a message to accept game. I accept right away but someone declines so the game is abandoned. I press play now again (same game), wait for players and the same thing happens again. I have done this as many as 5 times. On the 5th time, I am accepted into the game but only as a spectator.

What I want to know is why the games are being abandoned when 1 player doesn't accept if there are enough players without that person. In my example,6 nimmit!, the system found 5 players including me but one did not accept. Why did the remaining 4 players not get to play the game?

When this happens, I also get a message that I am playing at the abandoned table. Does that mean the system is still looking for another player to fill that empty spot.

When a game finally started, I was a spectator. Why? The game permits up to 10 players and there were only 4 players other than me.

Finally, when playing in automatic or manual mode, who is the table administrator, as in, whose preferences set the rules?

As background information, my karma is good but my experience on this game s only 119. I understand that more experienced players may not want inexperienced players, which may be why some are not accepting the game.

This is a bug, not a feature. It happens when the website gets confused because it gave back the table number of the cancelled table to another group of player.

This is unfortunate. It depends on the player base of each game (I don't have that problem personally). You might have more luck by opening a public table manually rather than relying on automatic matching.

Thank you. I tried manual and it works much better. You can see what is happening rather than just stare at the green bar. If anyone has the same problem that I describe, I suggest that you use manual AND create your own game. When I did that it showed me that I could choose a player range of 2 to 11 people and suggested the ideal number was 4 in that particular case. A lot of people abandoned the first game as they were waiting for 12 people. However, as the table administrator when you create the game, you have the option of starting the game whenever you have enough players as you have defined it.

To answer one of my other questions, you are never table administrator when you play automatic. You are joining someone else's table and will get whatever options they have chosen. It is only by being table administrator/creating the game that you get to choose the options that will be played. Even in manual, I don't think you can see what options will be used until after you choose the table.

That's not entirely true: you can click the cog icon in Automatic mode and set your preferred options that way. And you will sometimes be the table "administrator" (for example when setting up a Premium game), but only in spirit, since you automatically get put into a game.

In Manual mode, the most important options are also listed as part of the table header.

because they agreed to a 5 player game, I don't want to play a 4 player match of 6 Nimmt.
