Expansions

Post by BoardNoremac »

Hello all,

I have been enjoying BGA a lot for a couple weeks. Overall it has been great. I have noticed that some games have expansions while others don't.

I understand why games that were just made don't have them yet but am curious about some older games. Two of my favorite games I played last week were Keyflower and Tzolk'in which don't seem to have any expansions on BGA. Looking at "available since" it looks like they have been on BGA for a long time so does that mean there is pretty much no chance that we are going to get them?

I notice on the "specific" games forums there is always a thread about expansions. Should I be posting on the threads stating my interest or is it pretty much implied that if people are playing games on BGA they are always going to want expansions? Just curious if there is anywhere I should be posting if I really enjoy the game to express my interest in expansions.

After looking over a lot of games it seems like more often than not the games don't have expansions. Does this have something to do with licensing? Do companies just want the base game so players buy the expansions in real life? Maybe I am the minority but a lot of my board gaming comes from online play rather than real life even before this pandemic.

I know a lot of games get a lot of games get better with expansions. Overall I have really been enjoying playing board games on BGA. It really has given me even more games to play on the PC. I just love digital adaptations of board games and BGA really has some great ones!

Most of the time, yes. Sometimes the license if granted after a few years and it can be difficult to find some dev if the original one is not available anymore (extending someone else works is quite painful usually)
