Un-Rank Obvious Cheaters on Top 5

Post by ojomojojojojo »

Hello, I'm writing this post because I'm looking at top 5 listing and there are people cheating. Actually I only see 1 for now but I'm trying to refrain from singling anyone out. A player on there has all opponents same IP address and in many games they always make a kingmaking move at the last move to let that player win.

Here's an example of 1 game I saw featuring people who are in BGA top 5 best players https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=150410902. Obvious kingmaking here. Player has the tiles to win on 5 different occasions but intentionally waiting for main account to draw the right number

Here is a coloretto game. Have you ever seen such a perfect game of Coloretto where your opponents are just giving you every card you want? Well here is one
https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=151806344

It's a little hard to try and strive for prestige if some people are cheating for prestige. I understand if bga doesn't want to penalize the player but can they at least clear him from the ranks. It's very unfair. Imagine you are running for president. You spent all your money campaigning, used all your energy gathering votes and then at the ballot box your opponent who didn't work hard at all just hired his buddy to say you won. It wouldn't feel nice for the honorable guy who fought hard.

Honestly we are not asking bga to penalize people who play so dishonestly like this but at least unrank them so that people who are fighting hard to climb can do so based on merit.

To be honest people report these things but seems they don't really care about players doing this but at least the name should not be showcased on the homepage as if the person have accomplished something real

May I ask how do you find out their IP address?

So why are you calling them out in the forums instead of using the "report this player" [kingmaking] functionality that already exists?
By listing table numbers, you are identifying the player, even though you don't specify their exact name in the post.

I think she already answered above: "To be honest people report these things but seems they don't really care about players doing this but at least the name should not be showcased on the homepage as if the person have accomplished something real".

I think she is trying to say that the people who take care of reports don't care enough to penalise (a.k.a. moderate), let's say... the people reported for those 2 examples (or people reported for similar, obvious cheating situations).

And I think she used the forum as another way to attract attention on this annoying subject, on which I also happen to agree.

There are persons who say "I refuse to believe people cheat for some online trophies and XP points, which don't help them in real life."

Well... they are (to increase self-esteem, or 1 million other possibilities), and people bring arguments and reasoning against that, which should be enough to make some moderations for cheating.

Also, by the "not singling out" thing, I think that was not necessary, and she singled out some names (even though no specific name was given :D).
But then again... this is not the thing which should be troublesome here, what you are referring above.
But the fact that there are some concise examples of cheating, which seem to be ignored.

I think the answer to your question is quite obvious. Are you speaking out in favor of clear cheating even tho I presented examples of such? Are the people cheating your cousin or brother or something? Are you one of the accounts? Is that why you are choosing to defend such dishonorable behavior. If you don't like me bringing attention to such a matter, you can ignore the post and keep it pushing. Try to stay on topic here.. Thank you.

You are dismissed.

I see two reasonable report options for him under the ELO boosting category:
1. The accounts play against each other to cheat the ranking system. If you click this, you will be asked to list here the BGA accounts owned by the same person. Then your report will be ignored because they don't play with the same IP, but refusal to win is comical.

2. The accounts are playing as a team to help each other. If you click this, then you can't even submit a report because the system throws you the following message: The best way to combat Kingmaking is to give the Kingmaker player a red thumb (public red thumbs). There is no use filling in a report here: please give a red thumb to the one who made the kingmaking moves.
